For those of you who listen to large federal incidents, primarily wildland fire, but also hurricanes, floods, tornados, large gatherings of people, etc., the National Incident Radio Support Cache Command Channel 6 has new frequencies. They are: 168.4750 repeater output and 165.4000 repeater input. These are for portable repeaters with command channel traffic only, i.e. Division Supervisor level all the way up to the Incident Commander. This change is documented in official ICS publication. Those who can obtain the ICS 205 form (Comm Plan) for incidents should watch for this change. Those with large incidents near them put these frequencies in your large incident/mutual aid bank, system, groups, etc. and then report back here that you heard it. I will make a submission to the database.

I suspect we will hear a bit of usage this year with the usual "Full swing" wildfire season rapidly (or is it rabidly in our case? ) approaching!

You will practically need a radio dedicated to just tac channels probably this year

I have an entire system on my BC325P2 and a bank in my GRE radios labeled "Federal Large Fire." My California programs have systems and banks labeled "State Large Fire." My main interest in scanning is natural resource/land management agencies. I'm retired from the U.S. Forest Service and stayed involved in wildland fire and emergency management my entire career thus my main scanner interest. If I'm driving and see a smoke column I just enable those systems/banks if it's big. If a fire is in initial attack I have a bank and system for each area program that includes day to day frequencies used during initial attack and lock out all the law enforcement/highway maintenance/municipal agency banks/systems so I can concentrate on whatever incident those natural resource/land management agencies have.
