NIFOG PS Common UHF MED Channels

So, I'm in Florida, Orange County and decided to program all the NIFOG frequencies available for my state in a favorite list.

As the scanner goes thru them, it stops on the UHF MED Channels.

I have the DMR key entitlement key installed so, I shouldn't have problems decoding those.


Problem is, the scanner stops frequently on this department. The scanner displays DMR, slot info and color code, yet, all I hear is a "Brrrttt" buzzing sound, but no voice.

Posted this on the Uniden Forum and I've received al kinds of answers, ranging from inter mod to whatever else.

I'm stumped since, whenever the scanner does stop, I can see the signal strength bar showing more than half strength, it ought to be enough to decode a DMR signal, meaning, I don't think this is some intermod.

As someone suggested, it could be data, I have no knowledge of how data is handled in DMR, as opposed to on P25, where the displays shows you whether it is DATA, LINK or P25.

So I guess my question is, when you receive these transmissions, in my particular neck of the woods, are you also getting the buzzing sound?

Whenever I hear this buzzing sound, it usually lands on MED-102, with a TGID of 0, slot 2, color code 2, on frequency 462.9875.

FCC database shows nothing within 60 mi radius of Oviedo FL where I reside.

Is it data?

Could be, but the amount of data you can push over one time slot is sort of silly. Most use LTE to push any sort of real data.
More than likely, it's encrypted audio.

It could be a DMR "RAS" restricted access system. It's kind of like "E". I have one of those systems, a high school, down near me.

Ive never seen DMR being used on the UHF Med Channels. Usually they are specified as analog or p25.

According to the FCC ULS, there are 75 licenses in FL as a whole on that frequency. I also ran a search on just Orange County but nothing shows up within the county itself.

Who is the licensee? In the past the State of Florida has had tight control on MEDCOM from top to bottom so any technology, be it DMR or other would probably be mandated by DIVCOM .

All UHF MED channels are analog only (for nationwide interoperability). No DMR, no P25, no NXDN. To confirm, you can download a copy of the State EMS Communications Plan. You could also check to see if MED-102 is actually assigned in your area. What you're hearing could just be an image of another frequency.

I agree, however there is no shortage of agencies that completely ignore the DHS guide.

I live pretty close to Seminole, I could be receiving the signal from that licensee.
