Great info. How long has 166.775 been an input to 169.400? It was a direct car to car at one time.

Also in Monmouth County: 165.0875R - 151.4 - Fort Monmouth Police is active. I believe they are DOD police like the Picatinny Arsenal.

Its funny you should mention Ft. Monmouth. I just had a DOD policeman here at my shop. He said they dumped the MPs and now have DOD police. Something about the MPs not being able to arrest civilians? And since Ft. Monmouth is occupied by 95% civilians, they made the switch.

The input for Sandy Hook was a simplex channel at one time. If I had to guess, the 169.40 repeater has been in operation for around 8-10 years.

And to answer Air Cargo, this freq is used by the park rangers, fire dept & maintenance. The lifeguards use a seperate freq up around 170 mhz. But I can't remember the exact freq.

EMS is provided by Sea Bright (155.145) and Highlands (154.145)

Hi guys,

Gateway National Park of which Sandy Hook is but half has another repeater in Brooklyn but the frequency slipped my mind. Nothing much on those repeaters, don't bother bringing your portable, check out the nude beach instead.

The FBI hasn't used that 167mHz range in over 20 years, it's completely dead so don't bother searching out the red, blue, white, black and gold channels that they used back then in the NY/NJ/CT metro area. Most other government agencies also abandoned VHF, somebody out there has a very old list.

BTW, those FBI color coded frequencies came in groups of four, one repeater and three simplex. Each district was color coded, BQ, SI, NK and the rest. Transmit was in the clear without PL.

I remember when I was a kid in the late 70's, I could hear the FBI tailing people daily on the 163 mhz freqs. Sounded like it was in NYC.

I must say, the Newark repeater on 169.975 PL 167.9 is quite busy and sometimes very interesting to listen to.

You can monitor fed freqs from just about any where.
I know for a fact, that there is Secret Service repeaters in this area. I just saw one yesterday while visiting a tower site in Middletown. And saw one about 10 years ago at the UPS tower in Tinton Falls. And I'm sure the towers at NWS Earle & Ft. Monmouth have some too. There is suposed to be an FBI repeater on Earle's tower.

Thanks for that FBI NK repeater freqency, time will tell if I can hear it in Point Pleasant, can't get any ham repeaters there because of Telegraph Hill in Holmdel. If I remember correctly FBI and a 2M repeater are on 1 Gateway Plaza along with a whole lot of stuff including microwave links.

As for CNJ monitoring, most everything comes out of Lakehurst NAS. There is quite an installation from soup to nuts in the loft of hangar 1 and no wonder, it's 200' high. My radio club has a 2M packet BBS/node and 70cM voice repeater there, you should see the view! With the exception of the last ridge of the Watchung Mountains just south of the Raritan River blocking it's all flat sand from the Delaware to the Atlantic and all the way south so signals have pretty much a clear shot to the radio horizon. Yeah, it's just a bit farther than visual.

DEA Repeater

DEA has had a repeater on the Ocean Beach water tower in Dover Twp for over 10 years.

Confirmed 172.600 as the frequency for the lifeguards at Sandy Hook. Sounds like a simplex channel. Found it while searching while at the beach today. Never came across it while searching previously while there, but got it today. While monitoring, it was very little activity. At 10 they went through a list of the guards at the different beaches and otherwise it was pretty quiet except for some chat about what time people could take lunch.

I'd imagine it would come in handy if anything happened there.

Didn't get a PL/DPL, though.

NJ USPS Inspectors P25

Has anyone else noticed out there that the input channel to the USPS Inspectors (Repeater 415.05000 107.2) of 407.72500 is now P25 and ENC? I have been observing this for about a week now and can almost confirm that the signal is coming from both the Newark and Kilmer (Edison) repeaters. It also seems that there is data being sent over this channel inconjunction with encrypted voice, as my BC296D shows a P25 ENC LNK and P25 LNK (LNK meaning data as interpreted in the owners manual). I can confirm that during the Bio-Terror drill at Kilmer on Jun. 7, they were using analog mode; but now I have observed no activity on 415.05000 and the normal amount of communications (in ENC mode) on 407.72500 since Jun. 14, 2006. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
