I am trying to pick up state police but am not having much luck. I am new to scanning and this site. Anyway I have a BC246T and ARC246 software so I downloaded the Freqs from the database right to my scanner. Tried using the stock ant. , then tried 800mhz ducky and finally a RS 20-176. Is there something set wrong? I just pulled the freqs. right off the RR database because i had no idea how to program this thing. So any ideas?......Thanks in advance.

You double checked that Troop A is the one near you? I have the same scanner and I am listening to Troop B, but sometimes it can be choppy indoors. I used freescan from http://scannow.org/ instead of paying for ARC246.

Did you assign a system quick key to the entries when you added them? If you did you hit the scan button to scan and enable the system by hitting whatever number you assigned to it. Like if you assign it 1, make sure 1 is shown. If you still have the freqs that came with the scanner programmed in you can hit 9 to disable scanning them.

There must be a way to select something not in a quick key, maybe someone with more experience can fill us in on that cause I haven't had this scanner more than 3 days.

I now nothing about software, but is it safe to assume that you programmed the DEC talk groups also? They do need to be programmed because the dispatchers and units talk to each other via the talk groups. Also, let's see if you're picking up the control channel, which is necessary in order to monitor it. When the scanner is in scan mode, does it scan right thru the system or does it does stop briefly on a frequency, and then resume scanning again? If the system is programmed correctly, and you are within receiving range, when it reaches the system it will stop briefly on a frequency, which would be the control channel frequency, and then resume scanning again. If it doesn't do this, and just scans right thru the system without stopping, it's either not programmed correctly or you are too far away to pick up the control channel, and if you can't pick up the control channel, you can't monitor the system.

I am actually picking up something now with the RS 20-176. It was actually not stopping but now is stopping but I keep getting just one freq. its like prisoner transport or something and when it comes up it says Xband800mhz or something like that. I have no idea what the setting are because like I said earlier I just took them right from RR database and loaded them in. It was to confusing to do right out of the box even looking all through the info for a day. I am truley green at this so I need some direction.

I am not sure if the problem is with my antenna. Does anyone else in the Winslow/Berlin/Turnersville area pick up SP Troop A South. My scanner(BC246T) does not even barely stop on that system when I'm scanning. Im still using the RS 20-176 and I tried the 800mhz duckie. I tried to open jaymatt's file but I dont have an unzipper. I am not picking up anything and I never did, it was another system that was picking up some xband link from some prison transport or something. On a side note what does that mean when it says xbandlinkto800mz on a conventional system, and who is it that is transmitting it if its coming over the Camden Co freqs.?

Welcome aboard jrodg. I live in Berlin and pick up NJSP troop A just fine. I use the RS UHF/VHF duck and get full power on the first floor of the house. The current control channel is 860.9375. I believe it comes from near the state DOT yard in the area of the old Berlin circle on 73. Try scanning it conventionally to make sure you receive the channel, but from the winslow area you should receive just fine. The NJSP has strong freqs.
What you may have accidentally been receiving is a frequency from the Cherry hill or Camden City Pd. They both use 800 trunked systems, but they are a different kind and use different frequencies than NJSP. It's a long shot, but it's the only logical explanation I can come up with. I've been monitoring Camden County closely for over a year and a half and am not aware of any crossband repeaters for Camden county jail to the NJSP. Crossband repeaters are usually just one channel (a talkgroup in a trunked system or a frequency in a conventional system) that rebroadcast channels or talkgroups from another system. For example, here in Camden county, as I have mentioned, the Cherry Hill PD operate on an 800 MHz trunked system. Camden co. also has a frequency 508.7875 assigned as a crossband repeater to the Cherry Hill system. This channel is supposed to (I can't pick it up from where I live) rebroadcast several talkgroups from the cherry hill system. The purpose of this is for other departments who may not have the system programmed into their radios, or may not have the capability to transmitt at 800 MHz, its easier just to use this one frequency. Whew, if anyone has anything to add, please feel free to JUMP in!! {:>D And good luck getting the NJSP programmed into your radio. Unfortunately I do not have the same radio model as you, but I do know a lot about the systems and reception in this part of So. Jersey.
