Funny you mention that, after the NOAA weather warnings and daily warnings on the NJFFA Facebook page including 28 minutes ago, I'm going to unlock all of my VHF frequencies and start listening again.

I saw three talk groups on the new Statewide system for New Jersey Department Environmental Protection for North, Central and South fire and I'm going to enable them also.

I imagine the towers will be manned today.

Yes I noticed the division B is no longer being streamed and Division A is offline.

All the VHF DEP Forestry channels that I can hear from my location have been quite active this summer, I usually just scan them all. Several moderate sized fires in Wharton and Brendan T Byrne state forests and one just near me in Medford last week. A fresh on the joint base Monday is still active. Most are still smoldering and being serviced by forestry and local units when needed. Also the usual weather reports and fire tower chatter.

Also hearing StateCom 10 on Site 7 for FF. The old DEP 151.190 also in use. That is much weaker than it used to be.

Statewide 10S on NJICS is called Command Channel for all NJFF Statewide divisions. I also found this in my files, it is different than what is in the RR Wiki.
I blanked the inputs and PL’s. To many CCP radios around. Not sure about structure fire protection on 145.xxx.

Did anyone see the update yesterday (3-Nov-24) of the Craigmeur Lookout Wildfire? I was looking through the photos on bookface and one of the NJ Forestry firefighters was using a Baofeng radio with a bright orange antenna. Forestry service (NJ DEP) is that tight that they can't get their guys proper radios for the job?

I noticed over the summer that some of the seasonal workers at Round Valley State Park had Baofeng's, minus the fancy orange antenna.

It's literally a UV-5R with an extended battery...
The per-diems are not issued radios from the state, only the Full-timers. Unfortunately alot of the guys went cheap and got the Baofengs, as well a few of us run Motorola HT's or BKs, since we'd rather not risk comms on a $25 radio.

Back in the day (2000), I sold some of my brand new Motorola HT1000 VHF radios to some NJ Forest Fire service members when I was affiliated with the NJ DEP. And yes, the State is cash strapped when it comes to budgeting for radios for the DEP. When I worked at my park, we were still using HT440's from the mid 1980's all the way until 2015, when most of them were placed out of service due to them breaking/wearing out after those years of usage. And in my area, I was able to have several members of this forum donate VHF Motorola radios to have in use at my park to replace those HT440's until money was budgeted from the State to replace all of the radios (which finally occurred in 2019). I was also instrumental in having those donated radios programmed with NJ FFS frequencies for interoperability, which came in handy for the large brush fire at my park back in November 2013.

As for me, I ended up purchasing a Motorola XTS2500 with FPP to use in the park back in 2014, until my term ended at the end of 2019. I have since moved on to another career, but I miss the days of getting on the radio. "4F19 clear..." :)
