Did anyone see the update yesterday (3-Nov-24) of the Craigmeur Lookout Wildfire? I was looking through the photos on bookface and one of the NJ Forestry firefighters was using a Baofeng radio with a bright orange antenna. Forestry service (NJ DEP) is that tight that they can't get their guys proper radios for the job?
That must be Wranglestar.

I've noticed that with my aging eyesight, some of the BK/Relm portables look a bit like Chinesium Baofeng type HTs.
The People's Republic of New Jersey should limit some of the ridiculous social spending and equip EVERY Forest Firefighter with a durable, rugged and RELIABLE means of communication.

Most states have elaborate comms established for their wildfire teams, including a decent radio infrastructure with deployable portable repeaters, etc...

I'd hate to be in the middle of a conflagration with a Baofeng or equivalent p.o.s. as my only means of communicating.

I saw someone mention the NJFS had a TG on the NJINTEROP systtem. I’ve searched the DEP section but was unable to find anything. Activity on 10COMM was also mentioned, but so far nothing. Can anyone assist?

The TGs are labeled as DEP Fire North, Central, and South in the database.

Ch 7 is patched to North, Ch 8 is patched to Central and Ch 9 is patched to South. I'm listening to them on the Broadcastify Calls Platform.

I've been monitoring Ch 7 and North for several days and I do not believe they are patched at this time. The towers sign on each channel separately and units specifically call out which channel they are on during a transmission (most of the time). CH 7 seems to be more tower chatter and operations. The North TG seems to be mainly section wardens and incident commanders. Nothing confirmed officially, just my observations.

After further monitoring, it does sound like Div C ch 9 is patched to South Fire on the NJICS. But I can confirm, Central and North are not patched.

The problem is that in NJ and many places is that there are not enough knowledgeable people in the radio procurement process and many get duped by the fork tongue sales people from one of the vendors who add on useless feature sets which turn a two thousand dollar radio into a seven thousand radio. features that are not needed for two-way radio communications. stick to the basics. I believe the NJ DEP VHF frequencies and repeaters were more than adequate for forest fire operations. no need to reinvent the wheel unless your mission is to make some salesman meet his quota and get big commissions.

Forestry guys don't have state issued radios. They buy their own. That came from a NJFFS firefighter I'm friends with. So many municipalities got new APX radios, I know some FD's have botes of HT 1000, HT1250 and MTX and XTS radios laying around. I'm looking to work out an interagency surplus radio swap to the NJFFS.

The West Milford wildfire is on UASI 2 on the NJICS and I'm listening to it in Ocean County and it is also re broadcasted on UTAC 47 if your in the north. Not a whole lot of traffic however.

There has been a low amount of chatter across UASI2, UTAC45, UTAC47, and the listed VHF DEP forestry channels.

Ch 9 and Ch 6. Ch 6 (159.375) is simplex. It was heavily used during this fire when it was going big. You'd probably hear it from where you're at with a half decent antenna.
