Fortunately, GA
Goes to show manual is still available, thanks sld. I for one (and many more) bought the RS 668 then later paid to upgrade to the WS1080. Those of us who rely on the RR database update must have them since it was a huge consideration to its purchase!

!st, it isn't 15 days. Second, if this can't be or won't be fixed/updated, they sold a lot of radios fraudulently (not to mention all those updated 668's and such). Get off your soapbox and realize many have no need to or reason to 'manually' program, it wasn't the main reason I bought the 668 and paid for the legal upgraded WS1080. This database update isn't the only concern. It happened after a couple more strange things like a huge sale of their flagships.

Knowing how corporate America works, I am concerned I will have to learn to 'program' this thing in the near future. It seems to me that many others are also concerned. Just because it doesn't concern you, doesn't mean there isn't a problem. We don't need a 'fix', we need Whistler and RR to get the job done. Not rolling out something that doesn't work, then leaving a lot of us to (I suppose seeing as I don't have my 'fix') make crapola up?

It's fifteen days since the OP has been on. Let's see 12/15 to 12/30. That's what I was talking about. And, yes, it's been since November since the last update.

Its not about needing the updates, its about transparency as a company and how you treat your customers. The ability to support the products you sell. There are still reported firmware bugs a year old not addressed. Leaves an uneasy feeling about the future of the product....

At the risk of flaming the fire, let me ask what the purpose of this thread is? We agree there is a problem that should to be corrected, we pretty much know it is a Whistler problem, I think we agree Whistler is aware of the problem, and users of EZ Scan continue to ask them about it. We haven't been given information on actual cause (other than change in delivery method) or time frame for correction.

So why the continued posts arguing about blame, cause, and the future? Will any of that accomplish anything?

I called Whistler and asked them and they really had no answer as to why EZ scan is not updating, I also asked if there will be new scanners, the guy on the phone from Whistler said yes, so that part is good, I reminded him these scanners are not cheap.
If they are changing the software, why didn't they wait and leave it running until the new software was ready?

;) And that's the crux of it all. Last update 30 Nov, supposed rollout of a new way to update that failed, no believable answers yet, a tech says all is OK (what do you expect them to say if they want to keep their job), the list just keeps on getting bigger? Jump in to add to the list of curious coincidences... Who knows, maybe it is all a Happy New Year JOKE? Just saying... ;)

One thing that I miss about programming my older GRE PSR 500, PSR 410, Pro 63 & Pro 2055.....and even my WS 1065 was the ability to copy/paste data to and from the Win97 or Win500 software.

Since I don't really use the updates or the Location Programming feature of my TRX-1 I have been setting up a series of spreadsheets so that I can import programming into the EZ Scan software. This allows me the freedom to edit alpha tags to suit me and tweak settings such as backlight, LED colors, alerts, scan list assignment, etc.....

Using spreadsheets allow me to edit alpha tags quickly, build new scan lists quickly by copy/paste from the FCC license search webpage.

Just curious.....how are Whistlers issues an RR problem?

EDIT: Never mind. I see that question was already asked (and answered) many times.

Happy New Year y'all!! :)

The spread sheet option is UNIVERSAL as that database can be pasted into any scanner software and with free programs like openoffice it is very affordable and can be a good winter project for the scanner enthusiast.

This situation is so strange. Everyone knows to keep the old or existing system online until the new system has been cutover and tested. If an outage after the cutover then revert back to the old system.
Couldn't agree more. Terrible time during the holiday season to play around with a key function like database updates, especially if you know you're going to be busy with other holiday related tasks or short staffed for the holidays. Also troubling that they apparently left themselves no way to roll back to the last working method of updating the software's database. It has been two weeks since @WhistlerWendy posted, and still no resolution or update on the status of this debacle.

My thinking is that they are going to have a major change in how it works that’s so different that they didn’t/couldn’t also maintain the old way and just didn’t get it done in time before everyone left for the holidays. I emailed them about something else last week and they just got back to me on the 2nd.
