No transmission on handheld but I can hear the same talkgroup on my base.

Hey all. So I have the ws1040. I have it all setup with talk groups and it’s scanning and I can see the talk groups but it don’t stop scanning when there is a transmission. I know there is because I have a base and I can hear them talking. Just not on my handheld. Please help thank you

- What is the base scanner model?
- Are they both utilizing a similar or the same antenna?
- What system are you scanning?

It could be an issue with your programming, have you tried loading the programming again. It could be the antenna or antenna connection inside the radio, have you tried listening to NOAA weather channel? There could be some kind of interference near the WS1040 that isn't close to the base scanner.

so i forgot to mention that i do get the local fire department and i believe they are on the same talkgroup.... let me see if there is a way to share my settings and talkgroups

What is the base scanner model?

Pro 652 model
i have the included metal telescopic antenna
p25 system
i do remember when i programed the base model it happend the same thing there was a setting i had to change... now i dont remember what that was ..... i do know that the software i used was differant.... i got the product key for the arc 500 software yesterday... .. is there and easier software to use... im gonna try and post my settings and talkgroups for ya

Welcome to the RR forums. What's your location (city/town)? You're likely within range of two or more towers on the simulcast. The key is to try and get the signal on the handheld isolated to one tower. There are a number of multipath mitigation steps you can take in the wiki I linked below but simulcast distortion can be difficult to fully conquer without a Uniden SDS100 or SDS200.

ok so i figured out what the problem was..... when i imported the list from rr the talkgroup i wanted does not import for some reason..... i had do add it manual.... the tgp i was looking for was 232 thanks all
