Did the NOPD move to encrypted ProVoice talkgroups or just
regular unencrypted ProVoice?

Sure but if I had an LPE with Pro Voice, cable, interface and software wouldn't that solve the problem or is there more to it than that?

There is A LOT more to it.... firstly you will have to have permission form the City of New Orleans to have access to the system. If you get permission, then its all pretty much simple..... the techs will have to disable transmit function, or at the least set it up to not affiliate with any agencies and recieve only. Thats eneough info to get started with,.. once you get those two steps accomplished then you can ask on the EDACS board about further technical details. *Note: Unless your media, or some kind of specail operative for the NOLA agencies such as a radio tech, or the likes, I would highly doubt any permission forthcomming to program a PROVoice capable radio,... and if you do do it without getting permission for system access,.. expect at the least that within a week of you using siad radio it getting a kill command. And that would be the nice thing. You could risk lawsuits, and possible other more serious issues for unathorized access. Now all the usual warnings have been given, the ball is now in your court. Good luck and have fun! * (No not being paranoid,.. read around all the info boards here,.. you'll soon see that this is a serious issue, especially after 9/11/01.)

I see. I sometimes forget and think only in terms of whether it's technically possible and not in terms of the law. I don't want to
interfere with anything, even if it's just them sending kill signals
to my radio. I don't have any legit reasons to have access, I've
just always prefered to tune in different things on a scanner than
watch tv!

The good news is that FDNO is running analog currently.... PD is all PV Digital though.... Not sure if the patches are digital or analog.
