Well it looks like it is official. Norman police dispatch has gone silent. Hoping others don't follow but i feel they might.

I noticed my SDS200 stops now on TG 3101 which is shown as NPD TAC. The former TG was nonencrypted 3100.

Yes they could move dispatch back to DC and be heard in the clear if they needed to. I didn't mean to say they were totally gone. Semantic interpretation.

Just bought a home in Norman and was looking forward to listening to the PD. Shucks. Hopefully fire doesn't follow after PD.
People were saying last night in the Facebook group that fire is silent also. Someone is also spreading a rumor that they may broadcast but on a delay. Not sure on the details but that is what someone posted.

Well poo. I haven't setup the scanner yet so not able to verify. Is there a Facebook group for the area for emergency services?

As of tonight 7/13 Norman Fire and EMS is still dispatching in the clear on TG 3200 on Norman's P-25 Type 2 system. Monitoring with an Uniden SDS200 @ home. Uniden BC 796D in my car where I listen to OKWIN site 41 in Norman where almost all comms are type 1 P-25.

NPD has put the dispatch in the clear. Individual responses form officers is still encrypted. So if you have a SDS100 or SDS200 or any scanner P-25 type 2 capable and are within range of norman you can hear what is dispatched only. Better than nothing.

Like Broken Arrow PD this could be temporary, BAPD Dispatch would sometime come through clear for a week or two then goes back to full encryption. Like someone would accidentally "throw a switch" putting dispatch in the clear till someone else spotted it and "switched it back".

This is the group, Cleveland County Scanner The Citizens Page However most used the public feeds for information so the group is kinda up in the air at the moment. Time will tell how it turns out.

I have little doubt that 'citizens page' is a primary culprit why PD ended up encrypting most of their traffic. It certainly isn't viewed with much respect by local departments. It's all good and fun until some yahoo ends up showing up at a crime scene to 'document' or worse, use the information in the process of committing a crime (which has happened in Norman). If anyone local wants more information, I suggest attending the monthly public safety oversight committee. The next meeting is on the 12th of August at 4 PM. (Complete schedule here)

Self-disclaimer: I run the 'Cleveland County Fire Scanner' page - which doesn't allow most police-related posts and is for fire incidents only. That's why someone went on to create the 'citizens' page.

I hate to say it but knowing politicians and people in general it probably had a lot to do with all the backlash from the bear incident. I feel like they are thinking "out of sight, out of mind".
