Why doesnt NCEMS build a station in Norwalk? Station 1 is right by Fisher-Titus Medical Center while Station 2 is right in town. I guess I can see and cant see where it makes sense.

They have two stations in norwalk city.

Station #1 at Fisher Titus - which is the parent company of NCEMS
Station #2 is on Woodlawn Ave - which is the normal placement of the trucks. Stations #1 is only responded from when there is a truck there. Considering Woodlawn is in the middle of town that location honeslty makes the most sense. Especially since that stations covers so much area south and west.

Sometimes when a truck is out a squad is posted at K-Mart area.... then is would cover Station #3 area and Station #2 area.



Yes, NCEMS does cover the OTP - and that is posted on the RR site already.

Depending on where the call is determines the station response and also with GPS on all trucks NCEMS is on the OTP all the time transporting patients to otehr facilities that a truck already on the OTP might be dispatched as well.

He mentioned it was Fisher Titus Medical Center, the hospital in Norwalk, Ohio. However, it isnt mentioned on their website, http://www.fisher-titus.com/. I always thought NCEMS was private.

NCEMS is a non-profit ambulance service goverened by its own board of trustees. It developing and driving force is Fischer-Titus, but it is not owned by FTMC! NCEMS is a NON FOR PROFIT Ambulance company!

We discussed NCEMS in our EMT-B class and one of the instructors said that they can say NOT FOR PROFIT until they are blue in the face but someone has to make money somehow. My dealings with NCEMS have always been favorable though.

Interesting. I can tell you this anyone who wants to see NCEMS finiancal report can do so at anytime. It is complete 501c3 Corporation and honestly it is non-profit. NCEMS gives away mroe than it makes. They make enough money to get by is what I can tell you. Unfortunately facts are facts no matter who believes them.

NCEMS is on of the best companies I have ever seen in a lot of ways.

A nonprofit does not operate to generate profit. This quality is considered by many to be what defines the nonprofit, but it's not. The restrictions on distribution of the nonprofit's revenues is what separates it from regular corporations.

Nonprofits still have to generate revenue to finance their operations (e.g., labor, capital, etc.). However, how they can generate revenue, how much revenue they can generate, or how they can use their revenue may be regulated by the state of incorporation, the nonprofits articles of incorporation, and/or tax codes (particularly if the non-profit holds any tax-exempt status).

A brief question: it seems like when your instructor advised you that NCEMS was "making money", you felt that you had to evaluate whether or not your experiences with NCEMS have been favorable or unfavorable. Why? What were you evaluating your experiences against?

This is irrelevant to my point regarding the appropriateness or accuracy of what the instructor said. My point regards what the instructor seemed (not) to know about nonprofits and to whether (or not) the instructor was righteous in using the platform of "instructor" to promote beliefs about NCEMS. Of course NCEMS has/makes money. They have to pay for all the same stuff a government-run EMS has to pay for (more or less), don't they?

Relax, Commander. I meant no more offense in asking you my questions than you did in what you wrote before. Your previous wording seemed to allude (which is why I used the word "seems" in my original question) to some idea of a non-commercial entity generally providing better service than a commercial entity, and I wanted to see if that was the case.
