Not getting portable transmissions when they're local.

It's a strange thing. I can't receive the portables or truck transmissions locally on the BDC996P2, just the transmissions between truck & central. But a twp 10 miles away I can hear everything. Just had an MVA 1/4 mile away and wouldn't have heard a thing if it wasn't for my portable BCD436HP catching it.

That's normal. You're only going to hear handheld radios directly if they're nearby. The repeater sites are what have the long range.
