I just got a PSR-500 and I tried loading my area's V-Scanner folder just to get started. At first it seemed to work great, it was pretty much non stop traffic.

I managed to program my own TSYS and added the talkgroups I cared about. Again, seemed to work pretty well.

But yesterday I noticed it wasn't getting hardly any traffic. What was coming in was crackly and barely audiable. These are from trunked police sources withing a 2 mile radius.

Just to be sure I didn't screw up anything, I saved and reverted back to the V-Scanner like I did in the beginning. But this time the only traffic I'm getting is barely audible over the static and from places much further away than the area I'm interested in (according to the alpha tags, i'm occasionally getting hospital 4 miles away and few police divisions that are much further away than what I want)

Occationally the close police stations that I do care about do come it but again, the signal is very bad, even though they are very close.

Oddly, staying inside gets better reception than going outside.

I tried playing with the Attuator, and leaving it off helps a bit but not much. The antenna is not broken because when I remove it while scanning I don't get anything, not even the occational static.

I asked a cop on the street and he said he gets a clear signal. (Also, i'm in downtown san francisco, an area that should be abundant with police traffic)

DB I'm using: San Francisco County/City Trunking System, San Francisco, California - Scanner Frequencies

Any ideas on what I can do to improve reception? If I can't get it better, I might have to return it. This thing was expensive! Thanks!!!

Welcome to RR.

My bet is SanFran has rebanded.

Try changing each CC (red and blue freqs) down by 15MHz.
Then change T-Tables to Custom and enter 6 tables as follows:

Code:
ChLO ChHI Step Offset Base
440 559 25.000 440 851.025000
000 719 25.000 0 851.012500
720 759 25.000 0 848.000000
815 831 25.000 0 846.625000
958 958 25.000 958 868.975000
961 1022 25.000 0 843.400000

Another possibility is a loose antenna screw, see post 9 in this thread.
