I have had the unit for a year with no issues with connecting to my dell xps with windows 7. While trying to update some programming, I was unplugging my scanner from its normal location and bringing it over to the PC and plugging it in through the USB cable and then unplugging and putting the scanner back where it sits connected to the antenna. I did the cycle a few times and on my last attempt to connect to the computer the scanner no longer asks about going into the mass storage device. I've tried connecting with all the usb ports of my computer and no connection. I have connected other devices to those ports and the devices connect fine. I bought a replacement usb cable through scanner master thinking something happened with the cable but still no connection. The unit just continues to scan. I'm afraid to ask this but did I break the scanner??

It sounds like you have eliminated most of the "usual suspects" and the only left I can think of is a scanner issue. Possibly the port itself.

You might still be under warranty, so that's the good news.

One of the things I really like about the 536 is that you do not have to disconnect a scanner and bring it to a computer for programming. You can simply remove the SD card and insert it into your computer's card reader and program it that way. This too would work if you have a bad port.

If your computer does not have a card reader, you can get adapters at a lot of places, such as Best Buy.

I never thought of that. So, I would be able to put the SD card in and be able to update databases, firmware and then arc 536 would for BCD536HP for programming?
