To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have an NX-5300 and just had my dealer add the SD Card license. If I go to the Product Information, I see this:

That's promising. I insert my SanDisk 32 GB card into the slot, but cannot find any way to format the card.

Firmware is K 4.32.00 and KPG-D1N is version 4.31 with a 10/23/2020 date, in case one of those is the issue.

I looked in "Key Assignment" - "Menu" and tried to see if there was a format (and eject) options to add to that menu, but do not see anything SD card related.

I tried to see if I could set up the "ABC" buttons to have that as a function, but do not see that available either. I've read the manual, searched online and searched here, but I'm missing something, as it seems to be intuitively obvious how to do it, and I'm missing it.

4.52 latest firmware

You add SD card to the menu tree
Then playback, format and eject to the sub menu of SD Card. Once you do that then you can format.

Are you saying I need to update to 4.52 firmware for this to be an option?

If not, I'm not seeing "SD Card" to add to the menu tree. Under "Key Assignment" "Menu" I can create a new category, name it "SDCard" and then choose Icon 11 which looks like an SD card, but, this does not add the SD Card functions to the list.

I think I'm missing something easy, but I don't see where to add these options. The firmware might be the issue, but the SD Card option isn't very new, so I'm inclined to think the firmware is not the issue?

Any help appreciated.

Now go to the submenu and add the following items.
You where there, just did not go one step further.

Then add the following

Program radio.

Then you can select FORMAT SD CARD, and it will ask are you sure?, hit OKAY on the radio and its done.

Thank you very much for the screen shots.

I found my issue, which is that the SD Card license is in the radio, but I didn't have that checked in the Model - Product Information.

Once I checked that box, the Format SD and Eject SD card were choices in the function menu. I had read the Product Information from the radio, but did not save that with the code plug, so when I opened it later to work on the menu, the choices were not there.

Thanks again!
