• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hey all! Up in New England here it's been very cold the last couple days. My 2 deck one head NX5Ks and harris xg-100m radios are bolted under my trunk and when it's cold they continuously reboot until the car gets warm. The harris ones are ok and never have a problem rebooting.

This happened the last time it snowed and was very cold outside. I also found that the molex power connectors on the whip from the nx-5700k deck was loose and secured it.

Has anyone had problems with these in the cold or other power related problems? I haven't had this happen in any previous cars these were installed on.

How cold are we talking? It was -4F this morning, and when I grabbed things out of the truck, the radio came on, but the remote start did warm things up.

Check your DC Voltage at the radio; if you've got a tenuous connection, and your battery is weak due to cold (or other high current load) you maybe have too much voltage drop between battery and radio.

Once saw a cop car with a marginal battery, showed 10.8V awith engine off, not very better with engine at idle. Keying a 100W radio made to radio + voltage drop too low and reset.

You might have a component out of tolerance or a bad solder joint.
The operating temperature range for the Kenwood NX-5700 mobile radio is -22°F to +140°F (-30°C to +60°C).
This temperature range is consistent for both the North American and European (NX-5700E) models, as confirmed by official specifications.
Key Environmental & Physical Specs:
  • Operating Temperature: -22°F to +140°F (-30°C to +60°C)
  • IP Standard: IP54/55 (Dust & Water Protection)
  • Military Standard: MIL-STD-810 C/D/E/F/G

Thanks guys! After more research and measuring with multimeter... it was indeed a voltage problem. My Ford Explorer 2025 usually sits at or around 12v when the car is off, I'm thinking the battery is going bad. Car is still under warranty, following up on getting the dealer out to battery test it.
