NXDN Question

I understand that most of the sanners won't pick up NXDN broadcasts.

I ham assuming that this radio would pick up the NXDN freqs that I am not picking up with my scanner?

You didn't mention what radio you are talking about, but there is no scanner by itself that will monitor NXDN.

No scanner can monitor this digital format by itself but it can be monitored with DSD - Digital Speech Decoder.

As long as what you want to receive is not trunked or encrypted you will be able to.

Don't know about the Kenwood side; however, the ICOM iDAS series NXDN radios here everything with RAN 0, then once you know the correct RAN, you can set it just like CTCSS. of coarse, this does not apply to encrypted traffic; however, for Railroad buffs, this is huge...

It won't receive any frequencies that your scanner can't, but it will do NXDN just fine.
As was stated, the Kenwood version of the trunking protocol will not permit a Kenwood NXDN radio to receive a trunked signal, even with the RAN set to 0. I've heard the Icom radios will. Issue is that, currently, the Icom radios won't do Kenwood Trunking and the Kenwood radios won't do Icom trunking.

The standard encryption will get in the way, so make sure you know that what you are trying to listen to is encrypted or not.

NX-210 is a nice radio. I have about 300 of the NX-410's (the 800MHz version) here on my system at work. Good solid radios.

Receive freqs the scanner can't? NO....Decode NXDN signal that a scanner can't? Yes, but it won't do you much good around here. Everything NXDN in Sevier County Public Safety is on UHF and that radio is a VHF.
