Sometimes you have to do your own homework. Today I went over to the NY Boat show nothing on the close call so did a little looking around. They are using Marine channel 13 and Marine channel 69.

Happy New Year !!

Thanks man, I've been wondering that myself. I did a close call while actually on a ferry once - could have swore I got a hit on a UHF frequency, but never heard anything on it afterward - totally dead since then. It may have been a mistake on my part - some other nearby transmitter.

Will definitely program that one in, see how widespread it is... used by all boats/ferry terminals?

n3wrx,

Were you onboard one of NYCDoT's Staten Island Ferry when this happened? If so, see http://www.n2nov.net/SIFerry.html

No, I was onboard a WWay ferry at the time, going across the hudson.

The marine traffic on those frequencies is overwhelming - hard to tell who is who sometimes...

Fast Ferry (became NY WaterWay)0 used to have a license for 464.5 however now that Freq is a repeater it seems of SeaBright fire or Police.

Time to bring out the Scout, I suppose. I'll rerport back :)

Can you definitely confirm hearing Sea Bright on 464.500? They show no FCC license for it and all of the licensees are busineses; nothing municipal. Sea Bright uses all VHF frequencies. I'm not saying you didn't hear them there, just asking if you can definitely confirm.

sea bright

I have been listening lately... will take some notes. Lately it's just been blank transmissions. The last time I had traffic on that channel was I had tuned it into my AR8000 and at the same time Sea Bright went off on my other unit.

Also on the local ferries, so far my Scout has reported activity around Marine Channels 12/13 that is 156.6 and 156.65. No surprise there yet; probably captain > traffic chatter.

A frequency counter or a scanner with "close call" while riding the ferry would make sense, eh?
That's what I did with the Staten Island Ferry a few years ago.

I'lll probabl-ly take the ferry to the NY Autoshow again this year and I'll bring the 246 with me to see if I can pick anything up. I will report back what I find, if anything
