Question:
I either heard or read that NYPD had bought thousands of Standard/Vertex radios is that true and have they held up pretty good for them? If its true is it throughout entire PD or just Detectives or what?

Thanks
Joe

well.... i got an answer for ya.... after sixteen years in miami beach and XTS 3000's, i was in a cuban sandwich shop on austin street in Forest Hills, and in saunters two (obviously overworked, underpaid, tired, harassed, grumpy disheveled detectives with their vertex radios showing loud and clear. i talked to 'em, explained i was a ham, and was curious if they liked the new radios.
with their world-weary eyes, looking at me like i was definitely an EDP (new yawk pd slang for an emotionally disturbed person, which the pd years ago would call a PSYCHO, until the ACLU got on
their ass BIG time and made he pd stop that stuff and become more"politically correct......)
anywho, they just shrugged their shoulders in that couldn't-care-less manor, just waiting for the clock to chime in for their check-out time and said they were OK, but they didn't think they'd be as durable as motos...

I can just imagine how that conversation went..........Thanks LOL

Back when I was in business I sold our local PD Bendix Kings and they had always had Motorola, ....mistake... they hated the Kings and the radios didnt hold up for them. Which I was surprised cause I knew that Feds were big Bendix King users back then.

Thanks

God I'm homesick I miss Austin St, been away for 4 years. I really miss Happy Fresh Tortillas and A & J Pizza most LOL.

Double check frequencies and PL tones. Also, are you using the RR database for the info? They Citywide's do work.

The NYPD as well as FDNY has had Vertex radios for many years now. The major factor was price. The patrol model vx-510, vx-520 and vx-537 come in at about $300 a copy. So you can literally lose or destroy 10 radios and break even with the cost of one new saber.

It's hard to gauge the reliability as they are being issued in a different manner than previously. I understand that cops are getting their own personally issued radio and are responsible for maintaining it.
