Is there a freq that this will be replacing and if so, what freq?

These are replacing the VHF Transit Div freqs that are in the DB (note that this is NYPD transit division, not the subway A, B1 and B2 railroad operations, which remain the same).

Note also that this all "experimental" at this point, and there's a non-zero chance that they'll be back on VHF a few times before the UHF switch is permanent. The system is based on a network of BDAs underground, and I've been reliably told it has coverage and interference issues that have not been fully shaken out.

I've been monitoring the Bronx transit UHF frequency regularly since they made the change over last month. And from what I hear it sounds much better on UHF than on the VHF frequency. Definitely a lot less dead spots. I'm sure there are some tweaks that's need to be worked out, but overall I think the switch to UHF is going to be a good thing.

Anyone know how the BDA's are linked? Leaky cable? VOIP & Fiber. Curious how this was approached.

Not totally sure; everything but the BDAs themselves (including the cabling) was done by the MTA. One of the reasons the transit system is such a mess generally is that there are two agencies that don't play well together (city and state) involved in everything.

Are the new UHF-T band and legacy VHF-railroad band channels linked/simulcast while this shake out takes place?

Also, what's being done to replace the legacy VHF-railroad band tactical channels (old F2, F4, F6, and F8)? Have the Transit Bureau units been folded into the Tac A thru Tac W matrix, and, if so, where? (You'd think Tac T)

Lastly, what steps, if any, are being taken to replace the old Transit Bureau Citywide (F9/F10) system?

My guess would be for the VHF channels the train operation will take them over

I don't think they will late the equipment just stay there collecting dust

As for tac channels good question!!!
