Does anyone know a useful purpose for the object ID's used by any of the object-oriented scanners? - Tom

I can only speak of what I use them for, and that's when I hear a new encrypted talkgroup I haven't already programmed and locked out. The ID will tell me what department is encrypted based on the series of ID's in my area that I've already seen and noted.
A example would be the ID of 2321951 being a car on sheriff dispatch when it comes up again on a new tg using encryption with the same ID then I know WHO it is! :)
Maybe other users have a better system or use but this works for me. By entering the encrypted talkgroup as a object into a list, tagging it and then locking it out you will not have to listen to the encryption by doing this. Even with the wildcard turned on, I don't hear the encrypted tg in that list.

He asked about object IDs. Those have nothing to do with radio IDs.

To answer your question -- yes. I keep my high priority objects in the 1-10 area so I can quickly bring them up if needed. Otherwise, no.

PRO197: In manual mode, enter the object ID and you will go to that object.

For example, I can press 3 keys (man, 0, ent) and go to the first object I entered into the scanner.

That could be very useful provided you know the object ID. If you enter a code not associated with an object, you get an error beep.

To tell the truth, I had never tried this until after I saw this thread and looked in the manual. It's kind of cool. It would be even better if you could reassign object IDs. If you use a computer program (which I don't yet have), perhaps it is possible to reassign object IDs (one would hope so).

Yes reading these threads gives my the courage to experiment. If I screw up I can just reload the last Win 500 file and it will reset the scanner. Question can you set up a favorite file in Win 500?
