• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Yeah, we used to be heavily into boating, although I never owned my own boat. Wish I had one now, my son is 14 and it would do him some good. But the UTV's work well.

Dang, that's pretty good. My Ranger is a 2010, and I've got almost 5K on it.

Yeah i called my Dad the other day and asked him if had plans to use his boat for the summer and he said no. So ill be stealing his for the season lol. Best kind of boat is a free one

I used a zip tie to do what you said about the mic cord.

Also, here is the antenna they set me up with.

Nicely done. The QW152 is a nice antenna, it doesn't get all gunked up like the fancy "gunmetal gray" antennas we used to sell. Good simple 1/4 wave, you don't need anything more fancy.

Awesome. There's so many out there I had no idea what to get. This is just what they set me up with

Yeah, the ty-wrap will work fine. Takes the strain off that connector.

The quarter wave will work great on top of your roof. Half wave antennas work if you don't have the roof to serve as the ground plane.

I have another question!

I finished the install of the other unit in my truck and it works great.

I did not set this one up for a remote speaker but it looks like it's going to be needed.

Can I come off the head unit to a 3.5mm jack and plug that into a speaker?

Sure. The connector won't be a problem. Just make sure you are using a suitable speaker. The output is 2 watts into a 4Ω speaker. Make sure that neither of the two speaker leads get grounded.

If im reading the manual correct, it should be pins 10 and 11 on the back of the control head?

Correct on 10 and 11 for speaker (hint: pin 12 is blank so you would use the two next to it).

Also when using an external speaker the power can be bumped up to 13 watts but you need a speaker that can handle it like a KES-4 or KES-5. Details in the service manual.
