You really should have asked your question in the Eastern Canada forum.

I'll bet you're listening to the Cedarwoods site?

The old alternate control channel changed a while back. I believe it's now 143.8050Mhz and the site is running off of it instead of the old primary.

If this is indeed your problem, you might have been helped a lot sooner if you had asked in the appropriate forum.

BCD996T has lost the green (all 3 levels) of color LCD

I posted this in the Uniden General area. Hope it is ok to also post here as this seems to actually be the better forum. Thanks

Any one have any idea what happened? My factory BCD996T scanner is 40 days old. I noticed tonight that the LCD was dark, no color. I push the volume button cycling thru the three levels of the two colors for some reason I can only get the red (amber) LCD colors and all three shades of it but when cycled thru the 3 shades of the green (blue) I get nothing nothing. LCD acts like the LCD lumination is shut off .. Any ideas??

I did do a complete reset with no change in the color problem and then reloaded my info and still only have amber color working... As noted int he other group appears it is headed tot he factory for repair. I see on their site the have a replacement program I sure do NOT want that unless the replacement is brand new unit. Does anyone know if that is what they replace it with ??

Thanks for any help or ideas to fix this...

Sounds like a repair issue. There is no user setting that would result in the effects you are seeing.

tnx Upman

That is what I was afraid of might as well get it going for repair. Question. I see on the Uniden site there is a quick replacement option (not totally sure it is offered to the BCD996T) but. if it is sounds great as I could keep using the acanner until the replacement got here. However, my concern is do you know is the replacement a brand new factory new scanner? The reason is I made sure when I bought (from HRO) that the scanner was factory new I have a thing about that. I would not want to get a replacement if it was not factory new. If that is the case I would rather wait and get my reapaired orignal unit back..
Thanks for the info I sure hope this is not a bad sign <g> I have owned a 780 and 785 for years never ever a problem a all I have this 996 <40 days and have a problem (although admittedly a small pne at that

anyway thanks for the info

Uniden told me that option was only available for telephone and the like. That it won't apply towards scanners and cb radios. I tried to get them to do it for mine when I sent it in for repair, didn't work. Just have to wait 3-4 weeks :(

UPMan, Just curious, I posted a request back in Aug on this thread about how the GPS radius would be so much nicer if you could customize it more than just the defaults. Any news?

well got it packed up and a FedEx label printed will dropp off tomorrow it will go Monday and get there Wednesday then I guess the wait. I just hope they fix it. I did ask them to also while there take a look at the audio circuit as the reason is the 996 seems low in audio maybe just the radio but when I listen tot the br330T there is a lot off difference..

Anyway thanks to all for the help. I said before I sure hope this is not a bad sign as I had the 780 and 785 neither of which ever went back for repair.

Question for Upman:
I had read somewhere in all these messages that a new firmware code is being used I assume in a beta or un-released status for the BCD996T. Can you advise if this code is available yet for general use or only for those that it might correct a problem.

Short of that is there a working "info" status for this un-released code? I mean is there a list of improvements and or items the new code might address? My brand newscanner is off to repair at this time and I am having way too much time to read the groups <g>

I like to beta test / play with the latest/greatest firmware codes. When / if available.. thanks much

Update - BCD996T repair

Thought I would post this update should anyone else have the problem I did with my new 996. Below are the details of the problem but I lost the ability to switch on any of the green LCD colors. Upman suggested sending it in for repair which I did. While I do not have it back yet on the repair status it states they replaced resistor R263. So upman you were right not a setting I had wrong I guess. I am ready to get it back and hope it really is repaired and more then that stays repaired.. I really hate having problems with a scanner at this price range and <40 days old as I feel it may be a tip of the hat as to what the future might be.

Anyway, if you have this problem this might be the fix. Upman can you determine what or where the R263 is in the circuit? Just curious if there might be a way to determine what caused the problem or just part faliure. I have read elsewhere that the 996 seems to be having other problems and someone suggested some were related to using the wall PS that comes with the scanner.( which I have always done) I do have a Astron DC 12 volt supply I could conect the DC cords to as this radio is on prety much 24/7 any suggestions? Are there any real or proven problems attached to using the AC wall PS? thanks great scanner while I had it I plan to get it back and put it back in operation and hope no more problems..

intermittent audio

Need some help. 996 begins to recieve and then the signal bar disappears and i loose the audio for a few seconds. Any ideas on this? I searched the site but didn't find a fix. I have tried the telescoping and outside antenna. Same thing with both. My 396 is working fine with outside antenna. Hope that helps with the solution process. Thanks

Or you will find that you have (in order of likelihood)

1) programmed a Motorola Type II system that includes some digital channels as an APCO P25 system, or;

2) You have somehow set the digital threshold level to 0 for that system.

I know Upman is a Uniden rep but seems he takes all the hits <g>

My problem not a real complaint is I had to send in a <40 day old scanner to have it repaired (se below) They shipped it back Monday 12/4/06. They are in Fort Worth,Tx I am in El Paso Texas. Even the regular postal service can get here in 2 days. Well instead of shipping it back a decent way they shipped it via DHL!! And the cross contract DHL uses or has with the postal service. So here it is Friday 5 days later and per the DHL tracking my scanner has been in Ohio and in trasnit thru the postal system since Tuesday. 5 days later I am still waiting for the shipment that should of taken 2 days best... and per the tracking DHL says it arrived in El Paso around noon today. I am hoping to get it tomorrow from the PO but I just do not understand why it would be shipped thru DHL and take so long. Nothing I can do about it now but just another irking method after having to ship this class of scanner off right after getting it ... only to have it returned the slowest possible way
I guess I feel better venting but sure seems Uniden could care less about the return shipment. nuf said I just hope after all the miles it now has and extra handling that is works when I get it..

Cost. DHL is cheap. The federal government picked them as the official contract shipper. What's worse, is FEMA has to use them for critical deliveries. Imagine how slow that is!

Gary, yep.. You buy a new product.. pay a top price.. expect it to work as well as the last 2 similar products from the same company that worked perfect for years 24/7 (780 & 785).. you ge it has a problem <40 days use send it back 2 weeks to even get it out of repair.. then they do not even offer a chance to get it back in reasonable time.. In myopinion Uniden has fallen down in the customer satisfaction area. It will be fine IF I get it back and IF it stays trouble free short of that I guess Iw il sel it off and see what the competition has.. thanks for the response you must be right cheap cheap cheap without a care as to whatis right/fair for the cusomer
