Can I set a default location so when there is no GPS connected, it just defaults to a preprogrammed location?

Example - I have the unit in my house and just want to listen to the local stuff.

(Sorry I have not read the manual completely but want to get going.)

I've created two versions of many of my systems. One version for when I am at my desk (fixed location) that I assign to Startup Configuration Key 2. The other version, for when I am in the car (and this one has all the GPS coordinates in) is assigned to Startup Configuration Key 1.

When I plug in at the office, I hold 2 while powering up and all my "mobile" systems are locked out and all my "stationary" systems are unlocked. Similarly, when I get in the car and plug in the GPS I hold 1 while powering up.

While I understand every single word in the above sentence, I do not understand your question.

This is based on a post I had made earlier...

The location editor allows the various types of coordinates, but I have the Misc setting for DEG and the System only allows DMS. What is the use of this setting if I always have to use DMS?

Is this broke or not complete?

Sorry you must have missed it. :)

I'm shocked and dismayed that you only have ONE 996T, not one for home, one for the office, and one for the car. <G>

From your quote, I thought you were referring to my post...

UASD is neither broken nor incomplete. By design, it only accepts input in DDDMMSS.ss format. The setting controls how the scanner itself accepts input when you are manually inputting coordinates.

As to shock and dismay...hey, I need all the inventory I can get just for sales. Don't want to hog all the goodies. :)

p25 pre-voice buzz

I am getting the short burst of buzz before voice comes through on p-25 with my 996. This probably happens 50-60% of the time (full sig strength, threshold settings perfect ect..). This also happens on my 396. I have the res time at -7 and the gain at +3. Is there anyway to stop this from occuring? I traded my 2096 in on the 996 yesterday thinking that the digital on the 996 would be ok, with no pre voice buzz. I must admit that I am concerned because this is an expensive high tier scanner, and even the slightest buzz burst is driving me crazy. Can this be fixed through firmware updates? I know it was worsened and then improved with the 396 over the last year. Does anyone have any insight on this? My 2096 and 96 never had this problem.

Thanks,

Matt

Matt,
I wonder if it isn't the system you are listening to... I have the 996T and the 2096 and listen to the KASIS P25 system in SE Kansas and there isn't any buzz on either of mine. Did you have it on the 2096? Does the 996T seem to be slower at scanning the P25 than the 2096 was?

Thanks for any help.

Hi Richard,
I am listening to the Ohio MARCS. I have monitored this system on every digital scanner that has been in production (250, 296, 796, pro-96, 2096, 396, 996). I know for sure that the 396 and 996 have been the worst so far for the buzz. My 2096 and 96 have never had the buzz problem at all on this or any other p25 system that I have monitored. I dont know what the difference is between the GRE and Uniden's p25 decoder DSP (I am not very technical), but the GRE is more efficient from what I have experienced. The Uniden has a HUGH feature and memory advantage over the GRE for sure though.

What do you think causes the buzz? It sounds as if the scanner is not decoding the digital stream fast enough to cut off the buzz in the very beginning...??? I dont know enough about the technical end of things to know anything else.

Matt, just to keep things correct, MARCS is not a P25 system. It is a Motorola Omnilink system, in other words it uses the Moto 3600 bps CCh. Therein lies the problem, that is the difference lies in how it is processed. GRE and Uniden do not process the CCh's for Motorola the same (another manifestation of that is the lack of the ability to put more than one CCh in a bank/system and have them all scanned). That "buzz" was reportedly taken care of in a firmware update on the 396T, but I can't confirm as I have no 3600 bps using P25 CAI close to me. That buzz apparently does not happen on actual Project 25 systems.

Sorry about the confusion with the post. :)

I missed that info in the documentation. Or did I? :D

As often as I will be entering Coordinates in manually I will soon forget the choice of DMS vs. DEG in the MISC. menu will even exist.

Then it is a "feature" and not a bug :)

4 more days...

thanks Lou..

Hi Lou,
You are correct about Ohio being a 3600 system, interestingly enough, there are no analog talkgroups on the system at all. I am not sure why it is not a P25 system.

I appretiate the info on the different types of processing of the CCH's. The 396 firmware update definitly helped to reduce the buzzing on MARCS, but it did not eliminate it, it is still there but not all the time.

The positive here is that Uniden always listens and adresses most of the major concerns that we have with these radios. The 996 is an awsome scanner and I am sure in time there will be updates to improve whatever people find to be a problem.

Take care,
Matt

Apollogies and a comment.

After carefully watching both my 2096 and the 996 I realized the 996 is slower.so I Believe I should correct a previous post and say I believe it was Compubandit was correct.Allthough It is not horrible it is slower. I listen to the Ohio Marcs sytem and have no buzz on my 996....Love the radio wish I could get another.

More on the Lat/Long settings.

First - Upman you have really been watching this forum closely and helping us out. It is most appreciated and I'm sure is a lot more than other manufacturer's folks would have. So thanks for being there.

On the Lat/Long settings of DMS /DMM/DEG - the configuration editor and the location editor will accept these things in DMS/DEG etc. But the system editor will not unless I'm not doing something right.

So if the config and location editors can do that, it seems like the system editor could. Sure would be nice, as I said earlier, because that's what the RR give us.

Thank you again!

New BCD996T owner question

I am still programming and learning how to use the BCD996T but have found a problem I can not find an answer for. On ever channel I lose part of the conversation. The scanner stays on that channel but cuts out after 2-3 seconds. Then comes back on the cuts out again after 2-3 seconds. Once the conversation is over it continues to scan fine.
What am I doing wrong.

Thanks,

Spacenerd

Mine's slated for delivery Tuesday--I can hardly wait! I think I'll take the 9000XLT to the office--I can't receive the DTRS there anyway...
