I'm glad it's working better now. You can always trade the 92 with your aunt when you go to a race, mall, amusement park, etc., so you can "stalk" for frequencies.

What bums me out, is that you can't search 153 to 160 MHz. There are a lot of good things in that range. Actually, there is no search from 148 to 174 MHz. This is really strange that Uniden did this!

I'm not too sure since I bought this radio for my father & I don't have access to it right now, but the manual states other wise.

The 10 "preset" search ranges on page 39 of the manual can be changed. I reprogrammed all of mine the first night I had the radio. Page 41-42 tells how you can put in a lower and upper limit for each.

BUT, how do you chage the limits of a "preset range" that is not there? My original post was that I could not set 153 to 160. There is no "preset" range from 148 to 174.

The only way I see it is to do a direct entry search but when you get to the end then you will have to switch directions on your own. I never noticed that this thing doesn't have a simple limit search. I guess thats what we get for such a low end scannereyes00only said:

Stick with me for a minute and I think you'll be very pleased to see that the PRO-83 does exactly what you're trying to do.
The 10 preset frequency limit search ranges can be changed to any valid frequency that the scanner can monitor. Out of the box scan limit range 1 is "25.0000-27.9950". My range 1 is currently set to 460-461. As a test last night before my reply to you I programmed my search range 1 to go from 148-174 and it worked fine.
The only limitation is that you can't search a range outside the scanner's coverage. For example if you set up a search from 173-407 it will search from 173-174, and then continue searching from 406-407. It skips over any area it doesn't cover.
I'm very pleased with the way the PRO-83 allows me to prgram all 10 of the search ranges and then select to search one, two, or any combination of all ten ranges.
Let me know if you have any trouble with it.

Here's a short set of steps to program the search ranges. I'll also give the reference to the user manual at the bottom.
Do this to program your own search ranges:
-Turn on the scanner
-Press FUNC + 6 (band select) keys
-The display will say SRCH (for search), bank1 will be shown, and the frequency display will be alternating between the low and high end of the search range currently programmed.
-To set a new search range enter the lower limit such as "148 E" and the upper limit such as "174 E". This is for 148.0 - 174.0.
-The display should now be alternating between 148.000 and 174.000.
-Now press FUNC + SCAN (SRCH). This starts the search.
-When searching you can search 1, 2, or any combination of the user programmable 10 search ranges. To select or deselect them just press the numbers 1,2,...through 0 on the keyboard while searching.
To program the other search ranges 2,3,...0 start out as above.
-Press FUNC + 6 (band select) keys
-Press FUNC + 6 (band select) keys to select search range 2
-Press FUNC + 6 (band select) keys to select search range 3
..... for the rest of the search ranges
The section in the PRO-83 user manual with the info is on page 41,42 called "Program band select mode." My paper manual isn't here with me so I'm referring to the Adobe Acrobat version from the RS web site. I believe the page numbers are the same.

Here's a trick I use sometimes when searching that lets me search and also monitor a single channel. Let's say I want to search the the marine VHF band and still listen to the local county freq.
Set up search range 1 = 156.050 - 157.425
Set up search range 2 = 460.475 - 460.475
Then when I'm searching with only these two enabled it quickly goes through marine vhf, then checks the 460.475 "search range" which is actually just a single frequency.
