I realize this probably belongs in the specific Scanner Topics area, but since I'm in Ohio and am inquiring about Ohio Marcs, I thought it would be better suited here.
Can someone please help me in better understanding the set up of my Pro 96 scanner? Since the recent rebanding, I am attempting to regain picking up area communications. I live in Clermont County.
Banks 7 & 8 consist of most of my Clermont County departments. I am trying to manually enter some of the rebanded information into my scanner. However I still am not too clear on the layout. I will try to explain:
I am trying to understand how a "System", " a bank" , "ID's" & "talk groups" function together.
For instance, on the display of the scanner I have 0-9 across the top. Each of those are banks I assume?
If I go into bank 7 and hit MANUAL, I can punch in 7-47 and get channel 47 in Bank 7. My scanner shows 852.17500. Right now I get the "machine gun" noise if I leave it there. Across the bottom of the display It shows M36 : 6F16 and floats between 97% to 99%.
If I go to the Ohio Marcs area of the Data Base and into the Clermont County section, I can locate 6F16 under the SysID column. I see all of the different locations, which I assume are tower sites. I see all of the Control Channels with Primary in Red and Secondarys in Blue. I see the 885.17500c in the Cherry Grove site listing. This would be the closest tower to me.
If I am in scan mode and I get a lock on Channel 47 in Bank 7, I see Post 13 (OSP) but show 856.83750 on the display, which is a Secondary for the Cherry Grove site. I show a "DG" in the top left of the display. I also get Post 31 radio traffic on this same 856.83750.
If I leave only bank 7 active and hit Program & Trunk, I see the following on the display:
Bank 7-4 ON
ID No. 29
MOT: 64720
DAS Event-8
I can use the Down arrow and scroll through the ID numbers and go from 29 down to 00. When I reach 00, it goes to Bank 7-3 and at ID 29 down to 00. This goes for Bank 7-2, 7-1 and 7-0 as well. However Under Bank 7-2 ID 21, I see
Bank 7-2 ON
ID No. 21
MOT: 32064
Post-13
I see the 32064 under DEC lower down the page in the OSP District 8 section of the Database.
I am just trying to figure out how all of this ties together. When in Scan Mode, you don't see all of this other info. Unless you lock onto a channel within the Bank you're monitoring. Then you see (ex.) S747 etc. Where are all of these Banks (7-4, 7-3, etc) and IDs stored and how are they entered in order to interact with each other? A site location and control channels are the foundation you build on I am assuming. All of the other IDs and such are the building blocks. Each Bank only has 50 channels. The stats on the scanner says it has 5500 channels, but I only see 500 with ten banks of 50 channels each. I know the V Scanner Folders come into play here somehow, which I really don't understand either.
I know this all probably sounds complicated and is probably complicated to explain in simple terms for someone to understand. But I would appreciate any info and "tutorials." I have checked various websites, as well as the site here for info to better understand. I have tried to make sense of the manual that came with the scanner and have read the PDF for Programming Shortcuts for the Pro 96. I feel I have all of the pieces to the puzzle, but am trying to fit them all together to complete it.
Again, any help that can be provided will certainly be appreciated. Thanks to all who take the time to read.
