Oh, good grief... :p

Just checked on the tracking page for my KX3. It's already in Dallas. UPS now says it's scheduled for "early delivery" by "end of day Tuesday"!

It is a "signature required" package, so I'll have to be here to receive it. Hopefully they show up soon enough for me to make it to dinner!

Amazingly, I expect to be there Tuesday night. Only potential monkey wrench is my car. If it's not in the shop, then I'll be there (and my road trip will not be delayed).

OMG. The car is OK and I have no reason not to be there. It's a Radio Reference miracle!

Ah, UPS has arrived! :) Actually, they arrived almost two hours ago... Been playing with the new toy! :D (Crazy - I've *never* had UPS show up to the house that early.)

So tonight I'll bring the KX3, as well as netbook and scanner for DSD. Have to go find something to carry it all in...

Mmm.... BBQ! ;)

Next to a scanner...
Here is a quick screen shot of how you can use two scanners and one computer to effectively scan the OKC EDACS system - even ProVoice.

Specs:
PC running Windows XP
PSR-600 scanner providing data dump to UniTrunker application
Unitrunker sending "voice" channels to BC780XLT (with disc tap)
BC780XLT sending raw audio (data) back to mic input
DSDforWIN taking that raw data and converting it to voice to hear over the computer speakers

We had a really interesting meeting last night. I was kind of jealous of N5USR's little HF rig.

Thanks Mark, for helping this Mac guy get the ATCS railroad monitor running on my Windows. :) There doesn't appear to be any data north of the North Britton switch, but I'll work through that.

Dude, you should totally get your hamer license!

It's not you. Ken here in Norman that runs the receiver/server doesn't have good coverage north of downtown OKC. There is supposedly another guy running a receiver/server north of OKC somewhere, but I don't know its status.

The reason I almost had to miss the meeting on Tuesday was that I received a call advising me that the Union Pacific railroad was going to deliver a Los Angeles Junction locomotive that was donated to the Oklahoma Railway Museum by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) to the interchange that evening. It turned out that the move had to be postponed and took place on Wednesday evening.

Photos of the event can be found here: for facebook users:

and here on my flickr photo page for those without a facebook account:

To keep this post relatively radio reference legal, the ORM operates on a road frequency of 160.305 and the radios have been narrow banded to 12.5 KHz. :)
