I see in the database OKCFD now has encrypted TAC channels. What are they for and does this mean they'll be eventually replacing the non-encrypted TAC channels and moving towards all encryption?

I see that myself, let's hope not if they are going encrypted. They would have done it when they migrated To the system they're on now.

If they encrypt the tac channels and leave just the dispatch channel in the clear, that defeats the purpose of scanning OKCFD, especially in incidents like structure fires, wildfires and severe weather, where all the traffic worth listening to is on the tac channels. But giving how the OKCFD has changed the way they dispatch to just street number and type of call, dropping page number and time out, I'm afraid that's where they are heading.

I imagine with todays technology, map numbers and time out is a) no longer necessary and b) redundant.
