While I am about to purchase a gre 500, I still have considerabl use for my AOR 8K.

The forum has been very helpful in providing info on the various gre variations?

Now,I have never been able to connect the 8K to a pc. I have the Optoelectronics interface and all the connecting cables, but have not been able to make it play. I have a program (from the UK) but there is something missing. Most likely in my brain.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Didn't the Optoelectronics interface use a 1/4" stereo plug for its data connection? That doesn't go into the headphone socket... you need to install your own 1/4" jack on the side of the 8000 - in parallel with the funny flat ribbon connector you find in the battery compartment.

That aside, the 8000 I had was purchased (second hand) with a faulty data interface, and no amount of repair short of replacing the main microprocessor chip in the 8000 was going to make it any better. It was otherwise all working 100%, so I figured it was uneconomic to repair - PC connection isn't something I use often. Guess the previous owner had zapped the IC when they were installing the jack. Perhaps yours has suffered the same fate?

My Optonline has eighth inch jacks - tx es rx - that connect to that flimsy flat connector. I suspect is something I am doing in my digital ignorance.
I tried scancat and the program from the UK. But no joy.

It has been sometime since I tried to make this work as I have been using the rx in my VX7 but now need
To use the narrow band 6kHz mode for NYFD. I have programmed many banks from the front panel but after using the VX7 program I would like to do the same wid da AR8K.

I will gig out all the gear and info for another try and then post results.
