Hey All,

Great forum, and I am too a newbie in this world (1 year experience). I have obtained a commercial license recently and an very exited to use my UHV/VHF for safety during travel. On these travels I communicate with NRT to announce locations, and it already happened three times where I was fortunate enough to assist a stranded trucker or vehicle who also had a radio, and was in need of assistance.

What I am looking for is the "old Weyerhaeuser" frequency to communicate with logging trucks in Northern Saskatchewan. A trucker identified this frequency as the one to use for safety on the logging roads we take frequently, but he could not recall the actual frequency. Can anyone share this with me, as I cannot find it. We take these roads quite frequently to transport students from school to school, and communicating with logging trucks would have prevented us from having to make a detour of 4 hours today due to a closed road (not documented).

Thanks,
Chris

I do not see a call sign of HAWK on the Industry Data base. I do see you licensed for 153.05 but not certain if that gives you authorization to transmit on other frequencies licensed to other users. Also not aware of trucker frequencies in Saskatchewan so will leave that open to those with knowledge there. 154.10, 154.325, 158.94 are common in BC and northern Alberta. There may be some UHF frequencies but also not aware of them. But if the frequencies are old they are probably in the VHF range. A google search also shows various other common frequencies, 162.21, 163.05, 165.48, 166.62, 173.37 listed for Saskatchewan. But there are radius of operation where it is not permitted, so suggest this be checked into as there are truckers using these frequencies in the areas where the restrictions apply.

Yup, I have permission from NRT, which is actually an open frequency here in Northern Saskatchewan, as everyone with a radio uses it (Should be added to my list on my license). Thanks for your help, maybe someone else can help as well?

Thanks

Yeah if this is you it looks like you are primarily licensed to 153.050MHz, however Industry Canada also allows you to legally transmit on additional appendix B1 frequencies. This includes the LAD's and various common frequencies used in western Canada;

https://sd.ic.gc.ca/pls/engdoc_anon/virt_lic.pdf?p_lic_no=5140265

Similar to your license, here in BC you can license a single common frequency and request that additional appendix frequencies be added to your license. However in addition to the regular common frequencies we can have common "company" and resource road frequencies added as well as a part of Appendix 6.

See here for an example;

https://sd.ic.gc.ca/pls/engdoc_anon/virt_lic.pdf?p_lic_no=4647603

As you can see, with appendix 6 you can legally get access to quite a large number of frequencies which can be handy when travelling throughout the province at the price a single mobile license.I imagine these companies included in Appendix 6 have authorized IC to include them. (Note the inclusion of a few Weyerhaeuser frequencies as well..)

Anyways, you may want to check with your local IC office to see if they have a similar program in your area. Just keep in mind, your license needs to list every frequency you intend to transmit on.

Cheers,

dwC

Also, it does not appear that Weyerhaeuser has any wide-area, provincial VHF frequencies, just a couple that cover the Hudsons Bay, SK area;

And thus the reason I put in" licensed for or permission of". There are far too many people that never read or fail to understand the EXCLUSION/EXCLUDING clause by the frequencies listed on their license. This has been a major problem in the Southwest BC area within range of the USA. And why I always try to clarify my posting of frequencies or suggesting people check out who has the proper license or written permission to use "company" frequencies. For example: 154.100 is so often used south of Edmonton although every thing I have read this is an excluded area. Just because "everyone" does it doesn't make it right or legal. The google search for Weyerhaeuser showed these frequencies and some of the places I have no idea if they are in Northern Saskatchewan. 152.900 152.900 Weyerhaeuser Canada Ltd Kamloops 153.020 153.020 Weyerhaeuser Canada Ltd Merritt/North Thompson 153.410 152.900 Weyerhaeuser Canada Ltd Bob Lake 153.530 153.530 Weyerhaeuser Canada Ltd Lumby 153.890 153.020 Weyerhaeuser Canada Ltd Merritt 162.120 162.120 Weyerhaeuser Canada Ltd Princeton 162.330 162.330 Weyerhaeuser Canada Ltd Okanagan Valley

Yeah I don't think it has to do with people not reading the exclusions. It is the majority of truckers who are not licensed to begin with who don't even know there are exclusions to certain frequencies they are pirating on.

From listening and reading trucking forums it is pretty clear that there is a large group who don't play by the rules, who are running ham gear on commercial bands or paying people under the table to program their radios.

Either way, IC has been making a effort to educate and enforce these issues in the last few years so hopefully things are getting better.
