I know that many of the police and fire have gone to trunking systems and that made older scanners like my Uniden Bearcat BC248CLT not usable. Is there anyway that my system can pick up anything other than WX channels?

Welcome to RR. If this is your county, then there are quite a few things you can monitor: Erie County

Other than the State Police(which can not be monitored by ANY scanner), there does not appear to be any trunking systems in your county. Try programming some of the ones shown.

There are trains, aircraft, taxis, power companies, news media, hospitals, just to name a few. If there is a nearby military base there will be a lot to hear.

In many if not most areas, there will always be a lot of conventional/analog stuff that an older scanner can cope with. It may not be exactly what you want most to hear, as we often tend to be biased towards LE/PS, but you should be far from completely without monitoring fun. Finding stuff you may not think interesting at first that turns out to be fun listening after all is part of the challenge.:)
