Tomorrow is the big day! We should start seeing talk groups populate from Kane County on the new radio system. While coverage might be limited in northern Utah (this system was designed to not drag talk groups), we should definitely hear activity in Kane, Garfield, and Sevier counties in the next two weeks.

So when this all starts We are going to need everyone's help in identifying the talkgroups and any other sites that come online. There have only been a few of us getting this info into the database. we need much more help if we want the info correct and in the database for others to use. You see how extensive the Motorola 800 system is its the same if not more for the p25 700 mhz system, so we need all the help we can get. especially in the south part of the state and northeast part by Vernal to the Wyoming state line. there are sites in Wyoming and Arizona that are connected to this system for coverage purposes. So we need help from the full state for the full state. The database needs Talgroups, sites and site numbers, system info, neighbors, NAC info as well as frequencies info, which most sdr software automatically populate. scanners are helpful for the talkgroups. sdr dsdplus and some times unitrunker can be helpful. we need everyone's help for this to be successful...we have roughly 10 days left or maybe a month. be ready there should be alot of things happening over the next few weeks we may even see more sites put up after they are licensed with fcc... for coverage purposes......

Maybe a naive question, but are TG’s and their assignments not public information? Like you can‘t do a public records request or email UCA and ask?

No. The Frequencies used are licensed by the FCC and are public record, but the talkgroup assignments are private and UCA has no obligation to share them.

Anyone wanna share how the process of discovering info of a new P25p2 system works? My locality is nearing completion of a new system, and I'm trying to learn/be prepared to learn the new system?

Now hearing UCA (800Mhz) TG 4096, simulcasting on the P25 system as TG 64473.
they may have to do that with all the dead spot they were experiencing. they had service on legacy 800 while p25 was dead spots. they may do that to get out when they need too.

Soooo...

Put in my sites and frequencies, set to discovery mode and wait?? Is that on the right track?
A decoding program will help (a lot). (I use Unitrunker and ProScan.) It will also help if you limit your input/searching. One trunk site at a time (for a day, and make sure the radio is "searching" for TalkGroups/users/Sources, and not "scanning".

FYI: The cutover to the new system has been delayed again. Last night (Friday August 16) there was a software issue discovered that would affect the databases and radio synchronization. It's a big deal. L3harris is currently working on a fix, but it will need to be completed, implemented and tested before the rollout can begin. There is no new rollout schedule/timeline available at this time.

Not sure why, but comms from across the state are being carried on the North Salt lake Site.
