Winamp and a couple of other little pieces of software, all except a web site being free.

Go to http://www.shoutcast.com/download/broadcast.phtml, download the Shoutcast server and Winamp and start reading. If you still have questions PM me. (I'm on vacation, so my site's down, but it'll be back up tomorrow evening or some time Monday. Pro-95, power supply, one audio cable and free software.)

Same here.

Just note that if you want to do multiple feeds off of different scanners (i.e. I do one for our city PD and one for our county sheriff), you can install simplecast again into a different directory and run it/configure it for the 2nd feed.

You can also have a look at my web page for a couple good tutorials for putting your scanner online.Flash and text info on setting up Shoutcast,Windows Media Encoder and Teamspeak.Click on the web page then click on scanner tutorial! I have been running a live scanner feed on the net for ten years!!Was one of the first to do so outside of Policescanner.com remember them!!

This is awesome! I got it working yesterday. I have alpha tags and everything!

What sort of hosting should I use? I am behind a firewall and I cannot get an outside IP address.

Thanks for the help!

Is this setup at your work?

Why can you not get at least one port past the firewall?

Yeah. At home all that is availible is dialup. At work I have a T1 connection(very fast). The firrewall is controlled by the state.

When you surf the web, you connect to a webserver on it's port 80. It connects to your computer on random ports. If you open a web page and on your computer go to the command prompt and type netstat -b (windows xp) or netstat -a(windows 9x). Netstat -b will display all connnections that internet explorer(iexplore.exe) is using. Netstat - a will also show you the connection( denoted by the ":http"). The local address is your machine and the foreign address is the webserver(s).

On Icecast, I have tried changing the port number to the port that MSN messenger uses, but the status page on my machine didn't display any of the stats.

I plan to live feed my scanner via windows media encoder. Question is this: My scanner has a 9 pin to 9 pin cable that goes from scanner to
computer to program it via ARC250 software. Can I use this cable instead of the radio shack line from the external speaker port to the line in of the audio card? If I do this- can I then use the external speaker port
to extend a speaker to my den to listen to the scanner?

Thanks-
Andy

Andy that cable and the connection is DATA only. No audio. You need to get a 1/8 to 1/8 cord from radio shack or some place like that, plug one end into the EXT SP jack on your scanner, and the other end into the LINE IN jack of your sound card.

Configure your source program and server program and begin streaming. I've never used windows media, I use ICECAST, and use to use SHOUTCAST but ICECAST allows me to send text id's to the listener's end with winamp.

http://www.scancapecod.net has an excellent guide on setting up a scanner feed.

Thanks-

I believe that with the windows media encoder I will have that cord hooked up so that I can screen capture and broadcast the scanner video as well as the audio. I have one problem. How do I then get an extra speaker up to another room so I may listen to it there? Could I do something like this;

Ext speaker from scanner >speaker amplifier>Splitter>
and from splitter to extra speaker and the line in on the computer?

At radio shack there is a Y adapter you can buy, it will basically turn a single audio jack into 2. Plug the adapter into the EXT SP jack on the scanner and it will have two female ends, one for a cord going to the sound card and another one to an additional speaker.

You rock! Thanks a bunch. I will let you know how it turns out. I just bought a computer off e-bay that I plan to dedicate to the scanner
feed. I should be up and running by next week.

good deal, let us know when you have it up and running, I'm always anxious to listen to new areas. BTW, just curious what area are you in. Feel free to listen to us down here, we're always doing something on the air especially being in hurricane season.

Ext speaker from scanner > line in on the computer. Speaker out on computer > speaker.

No additional hardware needed.
