This is what I've been told. Better to put all the channel's in. This way if they switch the cc, you will not lose it. I live in a small county, where they only use 1 cc. I have never seen it change. I do keep all the channel's in though.

What radio will depend on this. My R30, being a receiver, I put all frequencies in. But scanners are different. What radio are you talking about?

If you have an "older" model scanner (pre SD card) and you are pressing memory limits, then Control Channel only may be best.

If you have an SD model scanner, then memory resources are greater. In that case I recommend adding all frequencies associated with a site. (It is what I do).

When importing Motorola or P25 is it better to import only the control channels?

In my opinion, it depends on the scanner. I don't need to do this with my SDS 100/436HP. However, I did have to worry about it with my GRE PSR 500, the precursor to Whistler scanners, so to speak.

For trunk tracking scanners you can usually get away with only the known control channels but it really doesn't hurt anything to add all the voice channels as well. This way if something changes and a voice-only channel is changed to a control channel you are still good to go.

For those trying to monitor a trunked system with a non-trunking scanner (like the R30 mentioned above) you will need all the channels included and lockout the current data channel. Not a good way to monitor a trunking system but on a small and not-busy one you could get away with it.

If monitoring a Harris system you need to add all the channels as any of them can be used for the control channel.
