OPP has the 2 pucks (antennas) on the roof for the MWS. One transmits, on receives. The modem is in the trunk connected to the pucks with cord. A cord from the modem then goes up and plugs into the MWS. It runs at 100mbs. The MWS encrypts the signal outgoing and receives the incoming encrypted signal.
Um.. What bearer and network are they using that gives them 100mbs mobile?
I am not aware of one available, outside a lab environment, that offers 100mbs and hand-off of session.
I believe polkaroo pretty much nailed it, but I would add that there is a new hardware called
Qualcomm Gobi for WWAN (Wireless Wide Area Networks) that will work with EVDO and HSPA on one card, and is available from most notebook manufacturers.
There are also some HSPA/Wi-Fi cards, that might offer some advantage when the car is in a location served by a WLAN.
I would guess that the answer to the OP's question would be Fleetnet, mobile repeater and 850/1900/GPS for the MWS.
