OPP Soft ID's

Hello again. I have another question I am hoping anyone on here can answer for me.

I know this was posted on here before, but I can't seem to find it.

I am just wondering if anyone on here can tell me who belongs to each soft ID. For example: 4OSCAR004 would be a sargent. 4A262 would be somekind of special unit or something like that and 4OSCAR101 would just be a normal unit.

So if anyone can tell me the whole Soft ID list like what I just posted above. I would appreciate it. So it will just give me an idea as to who would belong to each soft ID when I hear and see them show up on TRUNK88.

If you live in Zone 2 , it is a East Zone Traffic Unit.

They can be more than just traffic units. They're usually specialized units from either HQ or teams from multiple detachments. Ex. ERT/K9, TRU etc...

I'm sure they're in the Wiki now that they got moved out of the database although I couldn't find them.

I would think they follow the same pattern throughout the province. Here's my list of what I've gathered.

3A02x MTO Enforcement
3A03x
3A04x IDENT, TTCI
3A05x
3A06x K9
3A07x
3A08x S.A.V.E. - Snowmobile, All Terrain Vehicle & Vessel Enforcement Team

If you live in Zone 2 , it is a East Zone Traffic Unit.

And to answer the initial question. 3Alpha is not a talkgroup, it's a Unit identifier prefix.

I'm in Zone 3 (Cochrane county) and I hear a lot of 4Papa and 4Alpha units on OPP VR01. I cannot find where those units are from or what kind of unit they are. In the wiki page for OPP NE Division, the soft id's go from 4Bravo to 4Oscar (excluding Alpha and Papa). Does someone have an idea of these two call signs in Zone 3?

Why not do some leg work here, and map them out. And listen for the areas/towns/townships etc.. that they're getting dispatched to. Although some cross over, most tend to stick to one area.

IdleMonitor has the right idea. A little effort on your part and you would have probably figured out the Soft ID's by now.

In fact, the answer to 4Alpha is already in this thread.

4Papa is a little harder and will require some effort and detective work.

You need to ask yourself if they stick to a certain area and if they don't, do they perform a specific type of patrol?

4Papa is the new call sign that replaces 4Delta (Cochrane) and 4Foxtrot (Kapuskasing) units. So OPP unit from Cochrane to Hearst are now 4Papa.

Prisoner Transport Unit = 3Kilo in Zone2 at least in the Ottawa rea.

3kilo units are Ottawa traffic units. (Kanata Detachment). They only serve provincial highways 7,416,417 in ottawa city limits since amalgamation. All other roads or serviced by OPS (ottawa police service)

What defines the unit in the county or region, is the 3 numbers after the letter abreviate.

for example

3k602
3k601

The 3 identifies the zone, the kilo (k), identifies the county or region the OPP unit serves(in this case k = ottawa), the 601, 602 example, is the identification of the OPP unit in the county.

Up in Northern ontario, Your zone will be 4, then abreviation of the letter such (a) alpha (b) bravo, will be the county or district the opp units serves, then the number after that will identify the actual opp unit

This is basic to go by for help in identifying the units

There are plenty of exceptions, such as k9, water rescue, and other units, that may be indentified by (a)aplha. You will have to monitor and listen.

Try to hear words that are related to the officers unit.
Good luck, and if you come across discoveries, post them to the database for others.

While what you say is true. The Prisoner Transport Unit out of Ottawa does go by the Kilo designation. I've heard it many times log onto OPS42 when heading to Renfrew/Pembroke for court dates. Almost on a daily basis up there actually.

As far as the unit designation to the area that they serve. To the OP follow this guideline and do the legwork. The only way to get it figured out is to do it yourself. I did, as did a few others.
