OPP unit with 2 phantom antennas

I've noticed one OPP unit in my area (New Liskeard, zone 3) that has 2 phantom antennas on the rear of the roof. Does anyone know if this is GPS or something else? I'll try to get some pics this weekend. They look like small white pucks on the roof, one on each side.

Almost all Waterloo Regional Police Service cars have two of these as well. I always figured they were either GPS or data, but I have no solid information.

One will be a GPS/CELL combo and the other will be a CELL only to provide redundant cell coverage and single gps coverage

I had thought that the MWS's were going through those dual coil 800Mhz collinear antenna's.

Now that I think about it, the technology is not really that new.
York Region PS have been using them for quite a number of years now.

For the mobile computers
Back left on the roof is a little hockey puck type thing thats for the GPS
The on in the center on the rear of the roof is for the mobile computers data system.

Iv never seen them one cars that dont have MWS in them. So im rather sure they are for the computers.

Ok, but what about my other thread regarding the double coil 800mhz antennas?
I thought it was settled that those were for the MWS's?

That flickr photo showed 3 puck style antennas only with no 800mhz collinear that I could see?

Maybe it is newer technology for satellite transmission to/from the MWS's where no cellular service is available?

Some probably have the collinear and the others have the pancakes.

The cars in my area have the collinear.

Look at the Comtelco site and see if what you're talking about is their A2543W (white) or A2543B (black) antenna line. I use two of these on my '11 Outback and have no more worries about the damned things hitting the sprinkler pipes in garages.
