For those who own or have owned an Optocom (or for that matter, an OptoScan board of some form), have you ever connected an Icom or other CI-V capable radio to one of the CI-5 ports? If so...did you have to leave the Opto powered up at all times for it to function as a level converter? And what if any issues were observed by running two radios on the same serial port, albeit with a different CI-V address?

I'm planning to run an Optocom and an R-7000 as a pair via Spectrum Commander. Have done this before using two different serial ports, a custom Squelch Detect cable and a CT-17 to interface the R-7000 to the PC. For that matter I had three R-7000s hung off the CT-17, each using a different flow control line for Squelch Detect - and it worked. Now doing things a little differently and wondering who has played around with the Opto before I try my hand at it.

I've used both the OptoCom and OptoScan to program Icom scanners from my computer connected to the Opto RS232 port and didn't notice any issues. The interface needs power to operate so Opto scanner needs to be powered on.
