Well, after several days of research , reading posts, and posting questions
and procrastination, I decided to get the 246T over the 250D. Expected delivery date May 26. So, I've printed out the manual and have started reading, and I can tell right now, I'll probably be posting more questions in the future. I hope the 246 is as good as everybody here says it is, that's pretty much what I based my decision on. Thanks for the posative input and thanks in advance for any future help y'all can provide,

I think you will be happy. Dont forget to get your software!!! Personally I like Butels ARC246T over the Unidens UASD. IMHO it has better features and easier to use.

It'll be a while before I can afford software, I spent my "Hobby Allowance" on the radio, but, I think I'll give the freeware a shot. It's better than nothing and I've heard some positive remarks about it.

Another vote for the ARC246 software. They are pretty generous with the demo version so give it a try and you'll probably be wanting to buy it soon enough.

And another reassurance that you're going to love the 246T.
Really, other than P25, the only feature I keep wishing it had was the ability to search while scanning like the 396 is supposed to have. I think the scanner is a great bargain.

Hint: Cover the display with some kind of protectant cover (or a case) right away. Mine is already pretty scratched up.

Yeah, I've already thought of that, I'm going to try PDA screen protectors, I think I read a post where some one did that and says it works.

I have them on all of my radios, cameras, GPS units, phones, MP3 player as well as everything else that has a little screen on it and they work great. I picked mine up from RS for only a couple bucks on clearance.
