I went to the Shack store on 2/1 and order the 2096.
It was to be mailed from the warehouse, as none are in store. I called store on 2/5 to get shipping number.
In checking, they told me it was not ordered. The clerk had done it as an in-store sale.
So....They ordered it again and hopefully in 7 days I get it.
I asked if, since they screwed up my order, they would do 2 day UPS shipping. Mgr said no way, that would cost me money. Last time I go to that location. Now it will be 2 weeks vs. one week.
I hate Radio Shack, but can't wait to get the 2096.

Probably would have done better to order from the 800 number. Live and learn, right?

Hello,

I used the 800 number and had the unit shipped to my local shack. RS Customer Care even called me to let me know the status of my order. Seems you get better service form the 800 number than the store. :)

You will pay shipping (very high) buying that way (via the 800 number).

As for the original problem, I would have said 'fine - if you won't upgrade the shipping, cancel the order' and went to another store to order it.

By sticking with that store, they still get the sale. They aren't out anything. There's no punishment for messing up the order.

Joe is correct. And if you don't do something about it, they will continue to function in a sloppy manner. Why don't you use this link and let them know you were unhappy.

Regular UPS is free right now on the 2096.

I've seen some people post that, but others have been charged shipping.

If you order via DIRECT2U, there is no charge. That's where you order it at the store and receive it via UPS. Mine is sitting about 2 miles away but I can't get it until Monday.

Hello,

The shipping is free via UPS Ground using the 800 number. I did try to order at my local store and their response was "it's not in the warehouse." From the time the unit was ordered to arrival was 5 days. Unless you want the unit sooner, it may cost a little.

And as Lou mentioned bergg, you may want to call RS Customer Care.

I called the 800 number and had it shipped to me got it on friday. I thought I would be in the same boat with it in the UPS yard all weekend I can feel your pain. That's why it is a love hate with the tracking numbers, you know where it is at and there is not a thing you can do about it.

Thanks guy. You are absolutely correct, I should have went to another store or use the 800 number.

Live and learn. Just wanted to share this with everyone so if they go the store route, they make SURE it has actually been ordered.

I did file a complaint, on line with R/S.

If anything comes of it, I'll let you know.

Again, thanks for all the feedback. Bergg

I ordered mine online from Radioshack.com on Thursday afternoon 2-4-05 and it shipped Friday and will arrive at my house on Mon 2-7-05. Plus shipping was free as well. Taxes suck though.

I forgot. I never go to a Radio Shack store anymore since knowing anything about what they are selling isn't a requirement to work there. Every store i've gone to they didn't know what i was talking about.

Not all RadioShack stores are the same. Find one with people who started working for the company before upper management decided on the strategy of "screw everything except cell phones" and you'll do fine.

More on ordering nightmare

Well, the 2096 finally arrived by UPS on TH 2/11. It's a great radio and is installed in my new 2005 Ford Escape.

The story did not end with what I wrote in my first message which is at the begining of this topic.

I called the Shack to get my UPS tracking number just to be sure it actually was ordered this time.

Well...... They told me they could not give me the tracking number for I had paid for my scanner at the store with a check. I said NO I paid with a credit card. They said they show a check and for "security reasons" they could not give me the number.

Well.... I called my Radio Shack Store, the one at the corner of 28th St and Cascade Rd in Grand Rapids MI.
They said OH.... ??? I asked if they would "pretty please" call the Shack, get my UPS tracking number and call it to me on my cell.

Well..... No call, no nothing amen.

Live and learn. The radio is here, I love it and guess where I will never shop again, nor refer anyone I know to go to for Radio Shack items.

Over and out.....

Don't feel too bad. I took my 96 to a local store over a month ago for the audio control problem and was told that I had to pay shipping because I didn't buy it from that store! I figured since it was being sent in I might as well get the CPU update. I called the store last week and was told they don't know anything about the radio, just that it's not in the store. I asked for the store manager to call me back, but that hasn't happened yet. I think 30 + days for repair work is excessive!

It all depends on the people who work at the store. I had a Pro-93 that had the first generation bug in banks 1 and 9. I tok it to a RS to get the fix done and they told me it would be one week and it would be back. Well it had been one week and I got a call from the store that my radio was missing. It was sent by the sore UPS and showed that it got to the center. After that who knows. They told me to come down and they would give me a new one right then.

Have you called the 800 number on your repair ticket?

No I haven't Lou, There isn't an 800 number on the ticket, just the stores
phone and fax numbers? :?

Hmmm, I no longer have the repair ticket for mine as I turned it back in when I got the radio back and they gave me a receipt saying I got the radio back. That one does not have the 800 number on it; however, I did a little searching for a post I did back when I sent it off and was able to find it. Take a look at this post where I mention the 800 number being on the ticket. I also supplied the number in that post. The subject being discussed was the Upgrade being done to the Pro-96 and that part of the post may or may not be applicable, but the 800 number as well as the repair order ticket number should be on the repair ticket. :?
