casa bonita

i remember going there when i was a kid (i am 19 y/o now, still kinda a kid :D ), and thinking it was the neatest place with the volcano and all of the cool decorations.Being a little older, i have to say pancho's over by Admiral & Memorial has alot better food, but Casa Bonita was one place in Tulsa I will always remember.

As a young married couple the wife and I used to go to the Casa Bonita in OKC all the time in the early 80's ( and Crystal's Pizza, anyone remember them? They were the same company back then. ), so when we moved back to NE Oklahoma we started taking the Kids to Casa Bonita in Tulsa.

I remember the puppeteer taking time to show my oldest boy how the puppets worked, then letting him take a turn at doing one of the puppets opposite the puppeteer in a mini-show for all the kids!

It was a fun place and will be missed.

ahhh Casa Bonita and Crystal's Pizza. What memories as a kid in the 80's. Both places had great food! This all holds true that nothing stays the same. The McDonalds at 21 and Sheridan doesn't even have the old caboose anymore where you could have a party as a kid. Ahh man what fun in those days. I bet Casa Bonita could do really well somewhere on the 71st strip but, I bet they have no desire to. I wonder if they will still run Taco Bueno? It is still Casa Bonita DBA Taco Bueno right? Casa Bonita will be missed and I think I will eat there for dinner tonight.

casa bonita

If you get an old El Chraritto tv dinner, and leave it under your couch for a month, then you can have mexican food like casa bonita and pancho's. Not to be a smart A$$ but you must not get out very often and eat any good mexican food. my wife loves pancho's, and I thought Crystal's Pizza was one of the best pizza places around like shakey's pizza.

you guys need to eat at chelino's.

Now I am starting feel bad for you people in the Tulsa area, you guys can't get any good mexican food. :)

David, your description of the food is right on. Some people really think cheez whiz makes good mexican food. Leaving it under the couch for a month gives it that "extra crunch".

Casa Bonita was only good for the kids and people with a sopapilla fetish.

RIP

Never cared for the place, myself. However, saw on KOTV news that it closed due to a lease dispute, and the owner plans on reopening it as "Casa Viva" or something like that later in the year.

I had been in there several time lately trying to "make contact" with employees. I was affraid this was coming. The place was getting run down looking. All but the ones in Tulsa and Denver have already closed. It is sad. I have been going there for a long time (30 years??) There are a lot of memories there of family and friends who are long gone. I went by Friday night was going to take my kids but by 5:00 the line was already out to 21st Street. One of the units leaving the fair at around 22:00 said the line was still to the street and the people were standing in the rain. That says a lot. Many folkes had a lot of good memories. I will miss it.

CAsa Bonita and Taco Bueno used to be sister companies. They have not been for quite a while. It was some sort of family sqable. I remember that we thought the one that got Bueno was getting the short end..little did we know.

Kinda like when Three Day Furniture had a huge going out of business sale? They made a ton of money. They took a one month vacation and went on an Alaskan cruise. Then, they reopened a month later as Four Day Furniture? :)
