• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

P25 Conventional system Radio Reference import question

I have imported a P25 conventional system from Radio Reference to the PPS. It is Cranston PD, 4 frequencies, channel 1,2,3,4. All 4 channels import properly. How do I get these 4 channels into a scan list that I can choose from to put them into zone 2, knob1 to scan? What mode would I select to scan the 4 channels as a group?

I think I tried that, but how do I move the 4 channels into a scan list that I can choose from? That is my problem. I know I must be missing a step along the line somewhere.

Each frequency must be put into a knob individually and set up as a conventional P25 (make sure your protocol is set up for conventional P25 as well), then you can add them to a scan list in a different zone/knob. I usually have a zones/knobs set up as extra at the bottom of my list to store single conventional frequencies (P25, DMR, Analog).

Your best bet is watch some YT videos.
I would right click in the knob position then set it up from there.
I don't know about now and I have not checked for probably 2 months since I got my first one but the stuff I tried to find was all showing how to do things on the older PPS which actually confused me more than it helped. Do you have a name or something to search in there that has up to date stuff on YT? Frankly I've gotten the best advice and tips right here on RR which is why I thought the forums existed. I've learned a lot about a lot on YT but for the life of me I couldn't find what I needed when I looked for stuff on the current PPS.

This is another. Merry Christmas...
As long as you can interpret this into the version 4 PPS it could be of some help. I'm yet to actually find any videos with the version 4 PPS where things are in the place some of us are actually currently using. Thanks however for the links. As long as you can use what he says and then find it in PPS 4, they could be helpful.

Thank you so much for the detailed explanation on putting each frequency into a knob individually 1st, then create a scan list in a different zone/knob. That did the trick. As I keep trying to do different things in the PPS, it becomes easier to understand. Your knowledge in programming the PPS is phenomenal, did you happen to work with Unication in creating this program?
Also thanks to all who responded to my question. I appreciate it very much.
Another video on YT to check out is:
I found it very helpful in setting up my RISCON P25 trunking system on the G5.
He is using an earlier version of the PPS4 software. You can actually clearly see what he is doing and his explanation is excellent.
