P25 monitoring

New to the R30. If I want to listen to P25 other than selecting the mode, and, scanning the bands transmission might be on...are there any other codes or setting that need to be entered? I am located in Virginia.

I tried scanning between frequencies with P25, then also programmed P25 frequencies in my area. Programming the frequencies picked up better than my Uniden 436. Scanning between frequencies didn’t pick up much at all. Seems to scan to fast and blows right past active channels. Try both yourself to determine what works for you.

Sorry If this seems like a dumb question, but, new to the digital world.

With my Icom R30 I did a scan of p25 transmissions, wrote about 30 to memory. now when I scan these the radio stops and I believe it is receiving signals, but I do not here anything. are these encrypted channels?
