Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am working on a list to send for programming of a Motorola P25 radio and was wondering if I could please get a quick answer to my question:

Was wondering if the '$' must proceed the NAC? For instance in the case of F7E and 293, will it have to be put in the software/CPS as $F7E (for receive all NAC) and $293 (standard NAC)?

Or do they just need to be entered in the CPS as NAC: F7E and 293 for the respective conventional channels?

I'm a ham and new to the P-25 world, so a clear and concise answer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

No $ is required. Just put in F7E and 293 and you will be fine. :)

A leading "$" is a convention some people use to signify that a number is given in hexadecimal format. Others use a trailing "h". In neither case is the signifier part of the number.

You may also see the prefix "0x" being used to denote hex as well.. as example "0x293"... typically this will be used in the context of debugging etc...

If you want to hear all NACs leave it defaulted to 293 and check [digital carrier squelch].

Also, you can enter "65535" Talkgroup I.D. This is motorola's "hear all / call all" TG ID. This would let you listen / transmit to all talkgroups using a specific NAC.
