I am here in St. George's and I am having the same problem with my BC796D. It will lock on 160.59000 and not scan any other frequencies... What's up with that? I got 1000 channels... that is overkill if I can only scan one channel.

I don't appear to have the control channel option on my scanner. I receive the frequency Ok. It is P25 and functions well, The RCMP frequency has a carrier signal that I can hear well when I turn the volume up. I think it is like the squelch cannot cut out this background signal and stops every time. It's like the channel is open and waiting for somebody to key the radio to talk...

Unitracker is not an option I have found on this scanner. I think I am an advanced programmer when it comes to scanners. I have the user manual which is nearly 90 pages long. I have tried several applications and done some serious deep diagnostics in trying to get this scanner to scan all frequencies. I have a total of six frequencies and it always stops on the P25 frequency. No scanner could be that difficult to program. I think it is an inherent flaw that this scanner will never be able to perform properly once a P25 digital frequency is locked in. I know there is a online upgrade for a noise improvement while moving between active frequencies.

I am to a point where I'd like to find a tech in my area to confirm my theory that this scanner cannot squelch that dead air between transmits from the RCMP and therefore, cannot conitnue to scan unles I keep pressing scan over and over again.

Since you are talking a P25 it may have no bearing, but;

In NB at my Mother's place, the local VHF analog repeater would stay "Open" for like five minutes after they are done talking. Then I got good enough reception to catch the PL tone.

There was still a little hang, but only for a few seconds. If you manually tuned to it there was still open dead air but the scanner would not stop on it.

What chance is there that the system for the Cowboys in your area uses the same type of setup but is now P25.

I am no expert, it just sounded familiar.

Thanks for your reply... Through this link and my other posted one I have gain a little more knowledge. At the moment I am waiting to see if the RCMP P25 is working. I have heard a few anaolg stations lock and the scanner is scanning.
