• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

P801T Software?

Hello

I recently purchased a tyco/macom P801T to use as a parts mule for a Kenwood TK-290, I have no interest in monitoring any Opensky systems, but my curosity was piqued as there is very little information out there about these radios.
My questions are:

- What is the software used for these? ProGrammer doesn't seem to suport it (at least the version I have access to) - To be clear I am not asking for access to OR any links to software - merely which one would be appliccable.

- I understand that this is primarily a trunking radio - can these be programmed with conventional FM channels (i.e. 800MHz interop stuff)?

I did a search of this forum and did not come up with anything, my apologies if I missed something

If I remember right, HyperTerminal to get some base programing in then the rest is from when it logs into the opensky system and it is downloaded into the radio.

This is correct. Only very basic system information is put in the radio in order to initially acquire the system. From there the rest is downloaded once the user logs into the terminal.

Thank you both very much. It looks like this isn't a useful radio for 800MHz FM, but the case parts were good and I don't mind keeping it around as a curio. I'm mostly familiar with Kenwood and Motorola stuff and I must say the boards inside are pretty! I may try to get into it with HyperTerminal/PuTTY and poke around.

I had to do one once and IIRC there isnt really much you give it. I know there were system frequencies and perhaps a system ID of sorts. After the radio acquired the system, the user would log on and their profile would download OTA for whatever they were authorized to have (TGs etc)

If you are going to pull the guts to refurb your 290, I know a guy with one that someone already did the same thing. He was actually hoping to get the Opensky radio though, so if you would like to pass those innards along he would surely appreciate it. They have been working on rebuilding a small Opensky system for fun and that's one of the rarer radios.
