Would it be a bad idea to use a splitter and have this antenna along with my discone? Don't want to run a second coax. Looking at mounting it about a foot underneath my discone when I am home.

In theory that is not a good location. I should be as far away as you can and higher than nearby such objects.

If you want to use a splitter you will need a way to combine the 2 feeds from the antennas into 1, then feed that into a splitter. Extra runs of coax would be needed.

Bite the bullet and feed the mini whip separately. Much simpler

Still want to try a splitter. Just need to find a good one. Can put the splitter close to the house where my connection is at. Have about 40 feet from there to my discone. Will only be a temporary setup as I want to take this antenna with on my camping trips. If it does work out well, will order a second one for a more permanent setup. Maybe then I will run another line of coax.

I think you might be putting the cart before the horse here.

You will need a way to combine the 2 sources on one cable first. THEN you can consider a splitter. Extra cables, extra waterproofing, etc.

Get the picture?

Will have to run its own coax. There is a power feed unit that goes between the radio and antenna.

There is a power feed unit (grey box) that needs plugged in on the side. Has to be 12v 100 mA. I need something portable for my camping trips. My 1st time dealing with something like this. My google fu comes up with small batteries For like an ups for computers. Suggestions? Also, for when winter hits and not camping, would my Astron power supply work or is that to much power. Appreciate and help on this. I did email the manufacturer for there suggestions.

Just ordered the power supply that was recommended by the manufacturer. Will be a little bit before I can test it out. Its a wall wart. Will use an extension cord to power it when out camping.

Emailed the manufacturer about grounding. Said not needed unless a noisy environment. Being out in the country, don’t think I’ll need it. Out camping now. Once these storms get out of here, plan to set it up to test it out. Will be a few days. Nasty weather up here.
