Somewhere in this room. Right now, you're very col
Actually this isn't all that hard. You don't even need to do any soldering to do this.

Search for and download a proggie out of the Netherlands called PDW. It's a good little ACARS monitor. Next, grab a scanner and get a standard stereo patch cord with 1/8" mini plugs. Connect one end to the earphone jack of your scanner, the other to your mic input on your computer, set PDW to decode from your soundcard, tune your scanner to an ACARS frequency and away you go.

Now, decoding pagers in the US is illegal. So if you live in the US I must insist that you do NOT choose Flex/Pocsag as the protocol being monitored, and DO NOT search between 929 and 931 MHz on your scanner. If you do YOU WILL ILLEGALLY RECEIVE PAGER COMMS! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

I trust everyone here to do the right thing. ;)

Getting clean pager decode from a scanner is made difficult by the de-emphasis in FM receiving tends to round off the square wave. A discriminator tap is best. I used to do it for a living with professional equipment, and it was not super reliable. Besides, most of it will be meaningless without knowing who the message is to/from. And, yes it is illegal, even just monitoring the buzzing noises is illegal. When I was in the business, I used to do it so much I could hear it in my sleep!

"This guy I heard about";) hooked up his scanner to decode pagers and got bored with it after about an hour. 90% "he said" was automatic messages from water treatment ponds, computer servers giving error/"I'm OK" messages, and OH WOW!-----wait for it-----PHONE NUMBERS!!!!!!!!

I'd be more interested to see what she would look like with her hair down and that ugly piece of metal gone from her lip.

Using PDW and finding some scanner related pages are priceless. But I can't remember who did this...
