Anyone have any info on Parsippany's new UHF system.

I saw the UHF whips on their cars today.

Thanks,

New Uhf

Parsippany police kept their 800mhz frq, but switched to APCO-25 digital system

EMS and fire are going UHF as we speak.

Its used for the MIRS Radio's...as of two months ago the new cars (2005 Black and Whites) they put on the road only had the 800 mHz XTL5000's. I'm guessing that they held off on purchasing costly UHF digital radios since the purchase & installation cost was paid for by the County Office of Emergency Mgt.

The county has allowed Dept's to program UHF freq's into the MIRS radio's either as Digital or Analog Conventional freq's. The big note to that is that the county will only authorize the dept's to program licensed UHF freq's for that town (not a neighboring town). The idea is to prevent users from switching over to conventional freq's and towns are forced to utilize the MIRS system for "true" interoperability.

Some towns (i.e. Roxbury) who already were using UHF freq's as a primary dispatch were allowed to program their current UHF channels so they can use the MIRS radio's as their primary radio and scan both conventional and the TRS.

Is that one FD dispatch freq used for all districts? Will each district also maintain their existing separate freqs as well?

It will eventually be the main dispatch frequency. All 6 districts will be dispatched off of it but as of right now only Dist. 5 is operating on the new Freq. Dist. 6 is currently making the switch and i think the rest of the departmetns are still waiting for their radios to come in.

As far as the depts. using their private freq.s go i have no idea. I heard this new system was supposed to have fireground channels for each department but i guess its at each depts discression whether or not to use it.

EMS is still waiting to see if the radios are in. Installation will most likely take a while.

The last time i saw the plan for the freqs. It was going to work like this
1 dispatch for EMS & Rescue ( Units 65 66 67 & 69 )
1 Dispatch for Fire Depts
1 "Ground" channel for all the EMS units
6 "fireground" channels one for each fire district.

Police will stay on 800 Mhz

65 still owns the licelcne to thier "lowband" channel 2 (39 mhz) but its unknown if they will continue using it.
THe whole system should be up pretty soon. I belive the current delay is the various agencies getting thier new radios ordered and installed.

That was all the info that the worksheet had on it. But like I said the worksheet was from the summer so now that the radios are being built they might be changing stuff. Some of the channels are going have to have PL's that are not on the worksheet because some of the channels are on the same freq. If I find anything out I will definatly let everyone know.

Well i found one thing that is wrong on the sheet.. The channel listed as Dist 2 Fireground is being used by the town DPW. The thing is that at least one agency has it listed as fireground 2 on thier radios ;) . Also just FYI EMS is going to high band only on 1/13/06

Don't be confused by the 6 firegrounds...They are available for all depts so for example Dist 5 may operate on fireground 1. They are not assigned to specific districts. Fireground 1 is also the only fireground that goes through the repeaters.

As for Fireground 2 there is a DPW on that frequency but im not sure if it is Parsippany or not. Im also assuming that the radios will be programmed with a PL for that channel. When the system becomes more active we will be able to confirm these frequencies and hopefully get some PL's.

channel change

On the fire channels, there was a small change to the channels for the fire walkies. The EMS channels all got bumped up one position and channel 16 is now fire dispatch. They did this so that users not familiar with the radios can turn the channel knob eitheir direction and they can get fire dispatch.

If someone can update the RR Database that would be great.

Is it me or does 1 fireground channel per district seem like overkill? I mean Parsippany isn't as busy as say Newark or Jersey City and they don't have anywhere near that amount of fireground frequencies.

The earlier post mentioned the radios were being configured so that "users not familiar with the radios can turn the channel knob either direction and they can get fire dispatch". What happens when their on the wrong fireground frequency - there's like 9 of them if you include all the Talk-Around ones! Poor planning if you ask me. Not to mention why anyone unfamilar with using the radios would be using it! Looks like it was just an excuse to fill in all 16 channels in the radios.

Just my two cents anyway...

Current Frequencies and PLs

I know I'm the new guy here...but I have sitting in my lap the radio programming sheet from the Car65 captain. This is the current programming in the handhelds that all twp EMS units are using until the units are mounted in the trucks. This seems to be the new update of 10/05 from the same sheet firedude used in his original post.

Use -- tx location -- mobile freq -- pl

Fire Dispatch -- PD 477.175 -- 480.175 -- 127.3
Fire Ground 1 -- PD 478.175 -- 481.175 -- 114.8
Fire Ground 2 -- X -- 453.500 -- 123
Fire Ground 3 -- X -- 458.500 -- 123
Fire Ground 4 -- X -- 453.0625 -- 123
Fire Ground 5 -- X -- 453.1125 -- 71.9
Fire Ground 6 -- D6 453.300 -- 458.300 -- 123

Fire Talk -- X -- 477.175 -- 127.3
Fire Talk 2 -- X -- 478.175 -- 114.8

Town Services -- HQ 453.875 -- 458.875 -- 123

EMS Dispatch -- PD 477.850 -- 480.850 -- 103.5
EMS Ground -- X -- 453.7875 -- 151.4
EMS Talk -- X -- 477.85 -- 103.5

Hope this helps straighten out parsippany's new system.

While I have your attention though...does any one know what scanner I need to hear parsippany polices new radios...and any mods that need to be done!?

If you use any of the APCO P25 scanners out there today like the BC796, BC296 or the new 396 you will be all set, I listened to there Police on Saturday all day on there are transmitting in Analog & hope they stay that way. I am sure you are aware but program both police channels they pop up on both channels.
