I have an Icom PCR-1500 but I cannot get the real time audio to come through my computer speakers via the USB cable. I can record the USB audio with sound recorder, I can decode PSK using Stream, I can decode RTTY using MMRTTY, but I cannot get the unit set up with the PC in such a way as I can hear the received signals through the computer's speakers.
The USB audio is obviously getting into the PC, but why won't it play in real time through the PC's speakers?

Am I missing something here, or is there some hidden setting not mentioned in the manual?
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading!

PCR-1500: Audio from PC Speakers

The Icom documentation doesn't seem to mention it anywhere, but this behavior seems to be fairly common but easily fixed.

The difficulty seems to be caused by the USB driver for the 1500 - when it's loaded, it automatically tries to "take over" as the default audio device on your PC.

To fix the problem, open the Sound applet in the Windows Control Panel and make sure that yoru sound card is selected as your deafult audio device. Right now, you probably have a default device named "USB audio codec" which is really your 1500. ;)

Let us know how you make out with the audio.

YES!!!! YES !!! There is audio!

Thanks for solving that one for me, the bruise from banging my head against the wall was becoming quite noticeable... :)

Thanks again,

no audio via the USB device BUT DO have the confirmation beep

I have no audio via the USB device BUT DO have the confirmation beep and DO have audio via the PCR1500 speaker when not muted. I know this works (did it before) but altered settings and it stopped.

USB Audio: Figured it out.

After I restored the Native Audio device as is commonly shared by changing the "preferred device" I found I should
1) Press the off/on button on the tool bar to turn off the PCR1500
2) Click [Port setting] icon to get to that screen
3) Click the [USB audio enable] to turn it OFF / disable it
4) click [OK]
5) In my case I turned the Power back on and as expected - USB audio is off. Then I turned power off using the tool bar.
6) Click [Port setting] icon to get to that screen
7) Click the [USB audio enable] to turn it ON / enable it
8) Voila! Audio re-enabled.

Had to turn it off and on to re-enable it.
